Where are you from dude?
I'm from Singapore.

The NEO is a great system to own and if you're contemplating, all you gotta do is get a decent AES with 2 joysticks, maybe a memory card.
Add 2 games to start off the collection. I recommend Samurai Shodown 2, and Fatal Fury Special as they're some of the best in the stable at very good price-points.
For variety, you could add Aero Fighters 2 aka Sonic Wings 2, League Bowling, or maybe Baseball Stars 2, or Ninja Commando. These games are ace and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I might even add Ninja Commando to the must-buy list if it didn't cost like US$150 odd on ebay based off recent asking prices.
KOF98 is an absolute must to have in a NEO collection and at US$100 odd, it's a damn steal. Kudos if you're able to obtain it for less.
The Path of Neo is a tedious process, and of course most people including me wouldn't be able to add to their collection as often as they like, but then these big and beautiful carts are a joy to look at as well as play the hell out of.
Also, contrary to the opinion of people that Neo-geo Fans are rich, that's a lie.
Not implying that you meant that, of course.

This is a bad place to be if you want to avoid the siren's call of the Neo. Before joining this community I lumped the Neo in with the 3DO and the Jaguar: failed console. You guys are really good at shining a bright light on the good parts of every console, which has led me to disposing a lot of income on new systems.
For my case, I got on the bandwagon when KOF95 was released. As controversial as the game seemed to many, I kinda dig it and due to having to survive on an allowance, I saved up enough to get a NGCD with the 95 CD. It took me less than a day to realize I MUST have an arcade stick and so I went back to the store again a few hours later to pick one up.
It was until KOF98 that I realized I ain't gonna live with the abysmal loading times on the NEOCD anymore. I sold it and after topping up a significant amount, I then managed to own an AES with KOF98.
My collection then went on from there. Acquired bit by bit with the common games like League Bowling, Baseball Stars 2, Magician Lord, Super Sidekicks 2, Aero Fighters 2, Samsho 2, etc etc, it soon grew to about 60-ish carts. I used to have the JAP Aes slugs 3,4 and 5. Also had Real Bout 2 and the complete KOF collection at one time on the AES.
Then it dawned on me that I'm never going to shell out an arm and leg for highly sought after games like Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade 2, and maybe Ninja Masters and some other really great games like the Metal Slug series, or even Magical Drop 3. Games like Mark of the Wolves can sell like US$400 and people like look upon like as some kinda bargain bin deal. Before you know it, it's gone.
The NEO is always indispensable to me and will hold a very special place in my heart. Some can argue that the PS2 Collections or even a nice emulator setup on the Xbox can easily re-create the experience, but playing on the real thing is just 'different'. Neo fanatics will catch my drift.
Then I went the MVS route, and now I've the best of both.
