Anyone pick up DS-i today?

I picked one up yesterday. My 7 year old has been beating up my DS lite lately so I planned on buy another DS anyways. He gets my old one now. It works with my AceKard2. The screen is a nice improvement, I don't think I'll be using the camera or music capability much. It does feel well built and solid. The new OS is nice too. I see the DS Ware being a good move.

Does the DSi still have "Touch Screen to Continue" screen when you turn it on or does it go directly to the card's menu?

I'm definitely not interested in it as-is right now. They will have to make some decent software available via download only (which I am sure they will eventually do), before I buy yet another handheld.

We have 3 DS's in this house already, so no rush to add a 4th. For my girls, a blue one and red/silver one (both fat) and a pink lite for the Wife. I just play on whichever one isn't being used.

You mean the Health & Safety information screen? I'd guess yes. It seems that Nintendo has decided that putting the warning up is something they need to do.

I wonder how long before Datel makes a homebrew cart for DSi.

So I've got my new DSi today, and I have to say, the screen is amazing. It's larger and feels more vibrant than the DS Lite screen. That alone has made the purchase worth it, since I know we can look forward to DSi exclusive games in the future that will use the extra horsepower.

I never upgraded to the DS lite and my Phat is starting to get very scratched (even though it has a screen protector)

The DS lite looks pretty sweet. Haven't tried one yet but I hear it has a better grip, its definitely smaller then my old Phat, the screens are bigger, DS ware, 1000 free DS ware points if you buy it before October, better looking system.

I don't mind the loss of the GBA slot, I can play those, and all the old GB and GBC games on my SP or GBA. Though it is an inconvenience, I liked having a choice of games to play.

One question, is the DSi's screen less easy to scratch?

I have the original DS, and don't plan to get another model just yet. Each one has its own pros and cons. My original model DS is a Japan Black one, and I think I still like it best. In my case, its pros still outwight the pros of the newer models.

Original DS Pros:

-Heavier duty plastic housing
-Normal Size D-pad
-GBA games fit flush with the bottom of the system

Losing the GBA slot means losing out on cart to card features of some games that could only be done on the DS or DS Lite. Examples that come to mind would be the following, although there are probably more:

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (GBA) > Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (DS)

Pokemon Red/Green/Ruby/Saphire/Emerald (GBA) > Pokemon Pearl/Diamond/Platinum (DS)

I have dozens of GBA carts, and while I can still play them on the my Gameboy Advance SP or on my Gamecube Gameboy Player, the loss of the slot on the DSi loses too many other features as well. Metroid Prime Pinball came with a "Rumble Pack" that plugged in there and added force feedback to quite a few titles besides that one, but now that is out of the question as well. DSi is going to have to have some awesome exclusive games or downloadable games to convince me to buy one that lacks a GBA slot.

I readily admit that my opinion is greatly influenced by my age and collection of past games, and is not the end all solution for everyone, but It is definately limboing in the "wait and see" catagory for me at this time.
