Did anyone ever tell you that ellipses are used for omissions in text? One full stop is fine at the end of a sentence.

Destroying the planet? The planet's going to be fine. Sure, we'll kill off a few more species, but if the planet survived the catastrophe that killed off the dinosaurs it can survive us.
You got that right! It will survive us, what we are doing is only destroying our resources, just our race's longetivity on the planet.

what is this english class asshole? these are blogs not essays... (see my thought didnt stop there, so i didnt write a period) and are informal expressions of thoughts and opinions... (nope my thought still isnt done) there is no need for uptight, stick-in-the-ass formality every second of every day. there, that was my complete thought, no need for periods to interrupt it.

there sure seems to be a lot of a-hole, holier-than-thou critics on this site the last couple weeks... what does everyone have their period or something?

** oh and, by the way, since you are directing a comment directly at me, you should have surrounded the "sir" with commas... you, sir, should have looked over your post before submitting it, or maybe you were thinking there is no need for such perfectionism since this is just a forum meant for entertainment purposes... (that ellipsis is meant to imply that the subject is open for public/self pondering or debate).

Nahh, this isn't English class. It's just an attempt to help attenuate the utter death of the written word. You're making a post on a forum. It's nice to take the extra ten seconds to clean it up.

And yes, that might have been your stream of conciousness, leading to the ellipses. But that's not an ideal method for effectively communicating.

It takes more time just two write those two extra periods. In your defensive rant did you actually have a defense for your choice of punctuation? I couldn't find one. Ellipses are nearly always superfluous - I'm sure you could figure out a way to do without them.

I was in NYC during the blackout of 2003. It was a pretty peaceful affair.

Using punctuation correctly never hurt anyone. I'm giving you advice on how to improve legibility in your responses. Paragraphs and complete sentences are wonderful things when used correctly.

I'd rather read that then a paragraph without complete sentences that seems to just go on forever without a break it doesn't matter whether or not my thought process is continuing because we can't see that since none of us can read minds finishing sentences with ellipses doesn't help anything it just makes you seem like you don't know what you are talking about like somebody trailing off sentences or looking at the floor when they talk to you do you see how annoying incorrect paragraph structures can be now how many times has it taken you to read this i bet it's taken you twice as long or you just didn't even bother and will continue to argue with me further I'm guessing the latter yeah probably will be the latter come to think of it...

Yikes, we went from saving the world to saving the written word. I am not going to continue arguing about grammar. Especially with someone who, in this same post, said he doesn't care about anyone other than himself. I know there is no way to win against someone in that situation. I can't believe I offended others with this nonsense. Thank you, however, to mr. popo. You know how to structure a response. My main issue was not with being told my use of ellipses is annoying, but the condesending way in which it was done. Everyone has the right to express their own opinion, but if it's done in a civil manner this kind of crap can usually be avoided.

Be thankful I'm replying on my phone, it corrects grammar for me so I'm sure this was a lot easier to read.

I'm just glad you had it in you to structure a post properly, it really helped, thanks!

I guess you're not familiar with satire then?
