Niche and underrated games-thread

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

When we're on the subject of horror-games..

Rule of Rose (PS2) - Straight up creepy and with a bunch of underaged girls if I'm not mistaken. This actually was released in Europe too (France/Italy only) and I'm still looking for it. I know it's niche and underrated though so you US citizens (it was released by Atlus) should go get it.

Never said it wasn't ;) I meant it was harder to get in Europe. I'll rephrase that.

Since I brought it up in the other topic:
Trials of Battle (OS/2)

Futuristic hovertank combat on a dead Operating System. Described as Quake meets Mechwarrior, the game was a series of arena missions - so yes it was mostly deathmatch and king of the hill - but it let you build your tank to your specs. Imagine Mechwarrior but deeper. If you want to put the biggest engine in the smallest ship possible then spend the rest of your points in front sheilds, you can. Want to outfit your medium build with a bomb droppers and "jump jets," you can. Ok maybe I am starting to combine Carwars and Trails of Battle (its been awhile since Ive played either), but for its time it was awesome. 8 player lan play just made it that much cooler.

I long for a game to fill that spot on my shelf. Car Battler Joe came close (GBA title that was Pokemon meets Twisted Metal - also underrated but thats for another post) but I am severely disappoint in the offerings. The closest we came on the pc was Auto Assault, and it failed as an MMO, and I have yet to find a Mechwarrior tank mod with any depth. I cant be the only one who enjoys this genre, can I?

Ok thats it, Im going to find a copy, make a trip to goodwill, and install OS/4 on some pcs - to bittorrent I go.

anosou probably should have mentioned it's tough to find a PAL version because it was banned in a few European nations...

Girlfriend has a copy. It's definitely a strange game.

Whats with all the people that think Beyond Good & Evil was underrated? It's currently on the Greatest Hits list for the PlayStation 2 and only games that sell obscenely well are put into that category so it must have sold very well, and therefore it wasn't underrated.

I actually didn't know that when I posted that. I did some research and it was some uproar from the EU that mostly affected UK but led to 505 Games not publishing it outside their "local" territory which is France and Italy. The same publishing-method (although for different reasons) was used for Raiden III, Wild Arms 5, Ar Tonelico and Raw Danger so any PAL-gamer should keep an eye out for those. I personally own most interesting 505-releases (including all shmups) except Wild Arms 5 (still looking for the collector's edition, that will fetch a HIGH price) and Rule of Rose (getting that during the weekend) so if anyone has any questions about them feel free to hook me up.
