When I was born, this is how things worked:
You can only see a movie on VHS
You can only hear audio on cassette tapes
and you can only play games on cartridges
you cant mix anything with the other, cartridge is games and vhs is video..and they can only be on this media
yet I still do not feel any nostalgia effect towards cartridges. I don't miss them a lot. As I can remember, they were expensive , they jam, you had to blow in them, they are huge. Basically they do not have any advantage of a CD. CD's you can store in a case, which is better than cartridge boxes, it has more data, and I guess more durable if you take care of it.
is the n64 worth investing?????
Re: is the n64 worth investing?????
Well, CDs hold more data, but at the same time, cartridge consoles tend to have fewer problems than CD trays, as there's fewer moving parts. Plus, carts are more durable than CDs...and before the DVD cases on the PS2, GC, and Xbox, they weren't very durable either.

Re: is the n64 worth investing?????
N64 is an amazing console but the good games now are a lot of money. I spent 30 bucks to get Conkers Bad Fur Day. Paper Mario is very hard to find. A few of em like Zelda OOT, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark are still only around 10 or 12 dollars but that will probably go up soon.
Xbox games are extremely cheap right now, but I only have a 360 so I have to watch which ones I buy because they may not work on the 360. I got Max Payne 1 and 2 for 3 dollars or less.
I have still yet to get Halo 1, which I really want, but other than that there aren't many games that I really want for the original Xbox, maybe the Oddworld titles and Crimson Skies.
Overall, I would get the N64 stuff, but I'm likely biased because it was the first console I owned. Mario 64, Smash Bros, (oh god I played Smash Bros non stop, that game was the shit.) Yoshi's Story, Clay Fighter, Pokemon Stadium 2, Zelda, Goldeneye, Donkey Kong 64, Star Fox 64, Kirby 64, F-Zero X, there are too many great ones to list I'll stop there.
@Ack, cartridges also can hold data so you usually don't need memory cards.

There is a lot of fun games as everyone mentioned, and there is something nostalgic about playing games on carts. With that said, its not a good financial investment if you are looking to profit, but N64 stuff is pretty durable

i've been very lucky to find local pawn and thrifts to pick up my n64 games, only had to buy conker and banjo tooie from ebay but i picked them up for less than $20 each with shipping. i've got about $30 total in super smash bros, mario 64, mario tennis, mario kart, and dr. mario all from my local pawn (helps getting on a 1st name bases with these people). Luckily all games on their basic rack are $2 each.

I absolutely adore my N64 collection I am currently up to 112 N64 games. I was around 15 when I got my first 64 and it just has a special place in my heart. I feel you shouldn't collect for the "worth of investing", it should be cause you enjoy it. So if you love the N64 , collect away and enjoy the time you spend doing it.

Well it comes down to waht system has the games you will love more, I never owned a N64, but I had friends and a Nephew who did and I enjoyed WWE No Mercy & WCW/NWO Revenge, but outside of the wrestling games and of course LoZ & M64.
You would easily get more bang for your buck buying X-Box games, as N64 games tend to be a little pricey.

Re: is the n64 worth investing?????
I defiantly think having a N64 is worth it. Some of the best multiplayer games ever, Mario Kart 64, GoldenEye, No Mercy, Mario Party, Super Smash bros, Mario Tennis, Golf and some of the best platformers, Mario 64 and Conker. I was in college during the height of the 64 and I have great memories of playing those with my buddies. I guess it's really up to you as what kind of collector you are. If you need to own every game made then yes it's gonna get pretty pricey, but if you just want some good games, it's totally worth it, although that's not that cheap either.
Re: is the n64 worth investing?????
No it is not "worth investing"... but I consider it to be the worst all-around console ever.
