I just can't keep collecting EVERYTHING Katamari-style for the rest of my life. Being able to play PS1 and PS2 games with an actual Sony DualShock on the PS3 is a good thing for me. I understand why 100-percent isn't always possible but if they can get close, they should try.
That's what I'm saying! I mean, fine hardware emulation was too expensive. Okay. So they tried software emulation, hit some snags and just threw in the towel. If Sony just recruited some freaking homebrew pro's and gave them a dev kit we'd probably see awesome software BC in no time!

I'm just gonna ignore 3 pages of people bashing on nonsense and go with the original idea. A smaller xbox would had been nice before the 360 came out, it would have been damm perfect to have a smaller xbox with the capabilities that softmodding brought. It would've been the best media box around and it still could be. BC isn't for everyone, its just nice its there, but not worth paying extra for it should be standard.
There are so many console versions right now its daunting. I would have jump blindfolded into buying both 360 and PS3 but need to wait some more to figure out what I really need and for prices to settle down to what they are really worth. Ms and sony have done so many things wrong this time around is unbelievable.
When I first got a 360 in 2005 when it first came out I didnt know it played Xbox games, in fact, I didnt know till mid-2008 xP. B/C is a stupid featurn IMHO. And what really strikes me odd is how people say they will pay more money for the b/c. WTF? Why not just keep the old console and spend 80 dollars less on the new one and have perfect compatability for each of there libraries.
...Yeah, it is a little odd that Microsoft was so quick to usher in the next-gen that they completely dropped the original Xbox without a redesign. It did come back to bite them in the ass though.
The install base of the Xbox was huge so it's strange they would just dump everyone and assume gamers would make the leap to the 360. As we know there are still new games being developed for the PS2 which was close to 2 years old when the Xbox launched, wasn't it?

I remember a sony press conference where they stated they supported ps1 for 10 years and they planned to support ps2 also for 10 years. It was released on 2000, so 9 years it is. Ms just did it for 5 years.
