Re: Ikaruga DC/GC/360
I have all three versions and i like the 360 version the best. the 360 really stepped up the graphics and the controller is wonderful. plus you get achievments and what-not for playing which is fun. PLUS if you want it, have a 360, you could be playing it in 5 mins for $10. yeaaaah!

Why why why is achievements any kind of selling point whatsoever? The Ikaruga ones are actually meaningful (considering that half of them are "defeat boss" which is not trivial), but I see so many ones that are "can run two neurons together". I was playing Lost Odyssey and got an achivement for equipping a goddamn item. What the fuck.

However a Dreamcast or Xbox 360 hooked in a Arcade cab is sufficient.
Ill break it down like this
Xbox 360: Best graphics , Online play , CHEAP
Gamecube: Blurred graphics, Only USA physical release
Dreamcast: ARCADE PERFECT, Japan ONLY, EXPENSIVE , no ANALOG
I like playing my Dreamcast version in the Arcade cabinet the best.
Jealousy is too soft a word for what Im feeling right now :p
how much did it cost you to make that very cab in total?
I have a European release of Gamecube Ikaruga btw
Console to Arcade adapter was about $200 in parts . Throw in the Japanese Dreamcast and Ikaruga for another $150
About $1600 dollars total with shipping and taxes.
someday, someday.....

Re: Ikaruga DC/GC/360
yeh i dont think its that much different a resolution for us either though - our vertical resolution was always higher than America's anyway - I remember having an American copy of The Godfather on VHS once and I couldnt believe how much lower your resolution was...skate323k137 wrote:don't even get me started on how much it sucks not having RGB/SCART input available on our TV's in the states. You guys over the pond got so much more out of the 16/32 bit era. I still think a VGA monitor would achieve a higher resolution than a CRT TV, but if you've got a HDTV with SCART then you're probably 100% correct.baphomet_irl wrote:in Europe, this blurriness is non-existent and same quality as DC if you play it on a Wii using RGB SCARTskate323k137 wrote:I play the DC on a tate VGA monitor. It's freaking beautiful.
I do own the GC version, it's looks about the same on s-video as the DC version does on s-video, but the VGA is unbeatable.
yeh apparently having the RGB format makes using Superguns a lot easier over here too
All my pre HDMI consoles have RGB SCART and it really is a massive improvement over 'normal' (red, white (rca) and yellow (normal rf type I think)).
Capcom vs SNK 2 on my beloved DC is such a hi-colour headache inducing arcade experience on RGB - i love it

Re: Ikaruga DC/GC/360
nah Im talking on all levels - I love Okami too, but I think whats really impressive about Ikaruga is that it manages to maintain a purely artistic feel, even though it has 'realistic'-ish 3D elements too.kingmohd84 wrote:why people think so much of this game ?baphomet_irl wrote:seriously?kingmohd84 wrote:Why is this game is really expensive (new) on dreamcast
and why every one is going nuts over it
honestly, i got it off the internet , I ran it , its good shooter
I just don't see whats so special that no other shooter can mimic
plus, shooters are too complex and difficult(few lives) to continue
i guess its old school, the type where you have only 8 levels but
your eyes would pop out because you have to do all the timing and
no mistakes
- I dont often use these sort of words about games, but I would consider Ikaruga a 'masterpiece' and definitely a 'work of art'
even though it is hard, its balance makes it 'fair'
the art is just incredible and the music is epic
it is, without a doubt my favourite shmup ever (even thought Im terrible at it)
Don't you think there are better games graphics wise? even art style wise, say Okami?
or you are talking Shmups level?

I noticed a few surprise waves I think, nothing major just the odd group of 5 enemies or something, certainly not in anyway detrimental to the game (at all) IMO... and I am normally very 'purist' about these sort of things...

Re: Ikaruga DC/GC/360
Ive only played it with my EX2 as the 360 d-pad sucks so much - I didnt know you could play it with analogue stick (which I preume you're talking about) - so it's works well does it?andythebadass wrote:I have all three versions and i like the 360 version the best. the 360 really stepped up the graphics and the controller is wonderful.

Re: Ikaruga DC/GC/360
Ok, I'm using this thread to conduct some extensive 'reasearch' into Ikaruga, and hope to post my findings in the fullness of time. My first relevant observation, which I have just confirmed in a direct comparison of all three games on the same TV, is that the GC version is a lot less smooth than the others - it feels jerky in comparison. the GC version was my first copy of the game, and I had no complaints - it was pretty much my favourite game for about 2 years solid BUT when I dl'ed the xbox version about 6 months ago, I then booted up the GC game, and it just felt wrong because of the slight and otherwise unnoticable stutter. Also, the colours don't seem as rich, although I acknowledge that this could just be due to my TV getting on better with xbox and DC than the GC. (I also note that I am playing the GC disk on my Wii...)
I had read on the internet (don't know where) that the PAL conversion of Ikaruga deliberately skips a frame per second or something that in order to get over the 50hz/60hz conversion wothout slowdown, so this may not be an issue for american or japanese gamers, but that does sound like a bit of old wives tale to me... Anyway, this has got me interested, so I'm sure I'll be back...
