I have heard of the other two, but still thought he was going to say what he did. For the record, I have no interest in watching any of the three.

Seconded.

I love this thread. It's just a wonderful cornucopia of movies I desperately need see and do not need to see, hear, or think about ever again.

I'll bother to recommend a classic controversially violent yet GOOD film:

Ichi the Killer

"The film is notorious amongst moviegoers, has raised widespread controversy, and is banned outright in several countries due to its high impact violence and graphic depictions of cruelty." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichi_the_Killer_(film)

It's a great time. My favorite Miike movie!

I hate Miike's work. It's funny, I love horror movies, but I don't enjoy things like "ultra violence," or stuff that just comes across to me as just being disturbing to be disturbing. I don't know, most horror I find to be fun. Even something like Blood Sucking Freaks is just silly and fun in my book. But things like the stuff you guys are listing just feel gross to me. There's some kind of line there, and I can't quite explain what it is. But I know it when I see it.

As a fan of Miike, how many of his films have you seen, noise? He has a wide variety of work under his belt. The Happiness of the Katakuris, Osaka Tough Guys, 13 Assassins...don't limit yourself to just his horror and think that is all he does.

<-- Owns two different versions of Ichi the Killer on DVD as well as the T-shirt.

I don't know anything about Miike, but for me this kind of stuff (except a Serbian Film, I don't like that one) is good as horror because it actually bothers me. It makes me uncomfortable, makes me want to look away, makes me feel wrong for watching it. It definitely serves as a reminder of how good things are for me.

The majority of horror movies, in my mind, end up just being entertaining creepy stories, a somewhat or very explotative fest of things that would otherwise not make it to the screen, or flat out crap that I just enjoy because my brain is weird. Very little horror scares or bothers me, except for the stuff that's above and beyond wrong. This current (although I think declining) trend of jumpscare ghost/demon/whatever movies bore me to tears, they aren't scary and the stories are usually meh at best.
