Re: Games Beaten 2013
Spec Ops: The Line
I started this one back in January or February, but I got busy and didn't come back to it until today. I'm glad I did. The gameplay was only average but everything else was great. It is every bit the anti-COD that people say it is. This game successfully made me feel like a bad person, and more than once. I wasn't even trying to be a jerk, but in a real war there's no way to know everything ahead of time. There's no way to avoid accidentally killing the wrong people sometimes without simply ending the war.

Xbox Dark Summit

What was supposed to be a quick test run to see if the disc works ended with me finishing the game.
Definitely more fun than I expected...

There's something pleasant about a simple puzzle game on a handheld to while away the time. Picture Puzzle is a game of Nonograms, similar to the Picross series. Players must use arrangements of numbers to tell where to fill in boxes in a large grid consisting of 5x5, 10x10, and eventually 15x15 blocks, with the end result of creating a picture that is effectively pixel art. There are 200 puzzles available at the start of the game, but once those are completed, another 24 become available. Beyond that, there's no time limit, no penalty for getting a block wrong, no real plot, and so on; it's just puzzles. I enjoy games like this where I can just sit back and relax in bed with my reading lamp on and knock out a couple of puzzles. This game alone has already seen me put considerably time into my Neo Geo Pocket Color. I'm very glad I bought it.
It should be noted, the game never saw release in the United States. I'm playing a PAL version on my NGPC.

So it really is good? I picked up the GC port last year at a good price (under $5 complete), I thought it looked like a good blend of extreme sports & action.elmagicochrisg wrote:Xbox Dark Summit

Crash Bandicoot: Warped
I felt this game is not as good as Crash 2 even with the extra graphical gloss. There seem to be too many gimmick levels on bikes or jet skis that aren't very challenging and have dodgy controls. These are added to the traditional "chase" levels from previous Crash games so there is much less normal platforming. The game is also a lot easier and the challenge is artificially bumped up by adding time trials to the usual gem quest. Since you can't really effectively do any of the time trials until you beat the game, it feels really padded out.
What's better though is the aforementioned graphics, the theming is better owing to the time travel plot and some of the music is actually good this time! Nothing you'd want on your MP3 player, but still.
Glad I've done the whole trilogy though. Crash 2 is the best, Crash 3 is the most polished and Crash 1 the most pure.
Tomb Raider360
Really enjoyed this one. The survival stuff doesn't really pad out as the developers advertised, but as a action game with slight Metroid influences it works really really well. I also like how they've kept the mystical element from previous Raiders and not done a Batman Begins gritty reboot that sucks half of the appeal of the character out in a vain attempt at "realism".
I feel the gunplay could have done with a bit of tweaking though. I mostly used the bow as the other weapons even when upgraded feel a bit lightweight. The melee fighting also sucks, anyone who gets within five feet of Lara will get a hit in as she flails her axe around.
Another slight disappointment were the optional tombs you could explore. I don't know, they seemed a bit small and were just one room puzzles that weren't particularly puzzling.
Overall though a great game and would be excited for a sequel in this style.
After Burner Climax
I beat the game with each plane and getting to the secret levels so I count this as beat, but not yet complete as there are still some point based things to unlock.
I really like this game, it's very good looking and fast and just has that Sega sheen you can't find from other developers. The Climax mode lets you slow down play and lock onto enemies easier and this does add a lot to the core point gathering system as you string together kills to rack up bigger combos. They've also added branching paths like Outrun so that adds a bit of replay value.
I think it's as good a modern version of a super-scaler game as Outrun 2, it's just that After Burner was never as good as Outrun to begin with.
It still has the same problems After Burner II has as well: it's still difficult to judge distance between yourself and enemy missiles, the roll move isn't as safe an option as you'd like and you can sometimes just hold down the missile button and hope for the best.
What is cool though is you unlock loads of different modifiers to use in arcade mode. These range from giving you more lives and continues to having a constant cannon or limited missile supply. So aside from the added replay value you get from unlocking them, they also guarantee that even if you suck, like me, you will see the end of the game eventually.

Re: Games Beaten 2013
The graphics are good, but nothing spectacular. The controls are basic but solid. The flimsy storyline is just enough to give the game purpose. Nothing about the game really stands out, but as a whole it just works... ^^ExedExes wrote:So it really is good? Things I liked...
- Easy to pick up.
- Smooth learning curve.
- Very very long levels.
- Spectacular draw distance.
- Smooth framerate.
- Lots of different challenges.
- Funny bits in the storyline.
Personally I'm not a fan of the GC controller, so I'm glad I played it on Xbox.
But that's personal preference of course.
All in all the game is definitely worth checking out and will keep you entertained for at least a few days... ^^
Oh yeah, You know what's really funny?...
It's a game about an alien crash site, and there's not one damned alien to be seen in the whole game...

So, Zombies Ate My Neighbors was a game I've had forever, but was always stopped by the spider boss of Level 36. Well, not this time. It was a great choice for Halloween and is a favorite of mine.
I played the demo of Parappa back when the disc was available, and I remember how insanely popular it was at the time. I thought it would play just like Dance Dance Revolution, but boy was I wrong. I finally figured out how it works near the very end, and it turned out to be a nice game. Too bad it was a little short.

Just beat Zelda OOT about 23 minutes ago, and I feel like a million bucks. The last time beat the game, I was in the fifth grade, I think this time around I enjoyed a lot more.Getting started on Zelda Link Between worlds.
