With the level of rampant piracy they saw on the Nintendo DS and the Wii literally weeks into either system launching, I think they are right to be so concerned. No offense to any legit homebrew enthusiasts but pirates were pretty damn brutal to Nintendo the last few years.Dannyslr81 wrote: Wow Nintendo must be really paranoid about another twilight hack

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I'm not saying that they should not be concerned with the piracy I just think there should be a practical way to transfer saves.Flake wrote:With the level of rampant piracy they saw on the Nintendo DS and the Wii literally weeks into either system launching, I think they are right to be so concerned. It'd be great if there was but there literally isn't. Nintendo doesn't enjoy the wealth of technology patents that Sony and Microsoft do - if they want to secure their system from tinkering they have two options: pay out the ass for licenses for other people's file protection systems or develop it on their own.Dannyslr81 wrote: I'm not saying that they should not be concerned with the piracy I just think there should be a practical way to transfer saves.
Nintendo has opted for the latter and can you blame them? They decided a long time ago that paying Sony to license the codec needed to run DVDs (and now Blu Rays) was too expensive - they sure as hell aren't going to start paying Microsoft or Cisco or anyone else for file encryption and ongoing support in the form of patches for new exploits.
That means that if Nintendo wants something done, they have to do it in-house. It's easier to lock something down tight than it is to have something be both open and secure.

No, look at it again. He bolded "can you blame them?" and answered yes. Don't feel bad, I totally missed that the first time too.

So who's picking up Wind Waker HD tomorrow? I know its been out for DL for a bit now, but I cant see myself not owning physical copies of major Nintendo Releases, they keep their value too well, and I am still not sold on paying the same price for a digital copy as a physical.
I only put a couple of hours into the GC Wind Waker a few years ago, and it was great, so I am looking forward to seeing this one through.

I KNOW! I bought the WW bundle because I haven't owned a U yet, and I wish I had a physical release of the game. I guess I could always buy one, but there's so many games I wanna get and not enough money.
I can tell you... I've owned WW for GCN pretty much since it was released. On a few different attempts, I was never able to get into it for some reason. I'm LOVING the U version. It might be the HD graphics, it might be the swift sail, I don't know. But it's definitely the definitive version of the game.jay_red wrote:I only put a couple of hours into the GC Wind Waker a few years ago, and it was great, so I am looking forward to seeing this one through.
