It sounds to me, though, that you were a lot more hardcore than I've been over the years. My peak years watching were when I was a teenager.
I understand being a bit disillusioned about some aspects of the sport, but at the same time, I feel there are a lot of positive aspects and good guys in the NFL as well. Those are the guys I root for.
I'm more of an NBA guy, though. My favorite team is the Spurs, and I became a fan because of the character (and awesomeness) of David Robinson. Tim Duncan being a great guy made it easy to keep rooting for them. But even then, I don't own a lot of memorabilia, but I admit to that 2013 Finals defeat absolutely crushing me like no other loss has, but that also helped me gain a bit of perspective as well. It's just a sport, entertainment. (Still, 2014 was the sweetest comeback ever. If they never win a title again, I'll always have that year.)
