Yeah, they are probably games that are returned as defective or damaged. If they can't re-surface them, I imagine they get cut up like that so they dont accidentally get sold.
Yea that and when they need to clear out inventory of really old stock. Right now PS2 games are on full clearance for probably about another 6 months. The games that don't sell will be destroyed. I know it sounds crazy, no one can take them for free, they don't let the employees get dibbs, they actually have to watch the employees destroy every disk in inventory. It's a really strange policy IMO, but seeing as those games were $1 for the past 12 months, they were probably no good anyways.
Any PS2 game that has significant value and wasn't part of the clearance promotion, such as San Andreas. All get shipped out and then get sold in bulk to a 3rd party if I recall correctly (I may be wrong though)

My brother use to work at a Media Play(remember them?) back in the day and would have to destroy cds that didn't sell. He told me something along the line of that they didn't want dumpster divers so they destroyed anything of value they threw out.
oh and gamestop is 100% without a doubt evil. I haven't bought a game there in years. I wish funcoland was still around..........
I currently work at Gamestop and I have mixed feelings.
I personally don't agree with how they will allow employees check out a NEW game play it and bring it back, then the game is still sold as New. The only time I ever check out a game is when it is used.
I have never had an issue with being considered a "pushy" seller, but I do know that stigma comes with the job though I have never experienced it both while working there, or when i goto other Gamestops.
I just found out that store management doesn't get paid shit.
Though I do enjoy my job and getting to talk to people about games whenever I work. Also I've occasionally been given retro" stuff. A customer came in recently with a couple N64 and Gamecube games. We told him we wouldn't buy the games and I recommended some local game stores that would take them for a decent price. He didnt feel like going there so he just asked what I wanted and gave them to me.

I walked into a GS and browsed around. The guy working there was on the phone and from what I gathered, an upset customer was complaining about a defective portable.
Here is what he said to customer: "Do you play it while it's charging?, See, you're not supposed to do that. It also defeats the purpose of of having a portable. Why would you play it while it's being charged? Might as well play a console. It's common sense. I can't take it back due to negligence. It's not our fault. In the future don't play portables while they're charging, they'll overheat. (a minute goes by) Yeah I'm the store manager...no, I can't. Sorry ma'am. We guarantee our used systems to work, you go ahead and do that, have a nice evening."
I wanted to say something but it's no use arguing with people like that. That was my first (and last) time going to that GS location.

Details please.
You know, the one copy of each new game that they open to put the case on the shelf, and then still charge full "new" price for if it's the last copy left for sale? Employees can take that disc home overnight. My brother used to do that all the time when he worked at a gamestop. That was years ago, and from what I understand it's "discouraged" now, but I'm sure it still happens.
Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

Last month, they reviewed Black Ops 2 and Far Cry 3. You know what the game o he month was?
New Super Mario Bros. U
Where's the game of the month section? Because I don't see that in my copies. Are you talking about the Game of the Year? Because last month they revealed the readers' list (which was Halo 4, BTW). The month before that, they had their own picks, which Mass Effect 3 was their's. (BTW Far Cry 3 got a 9) Is this also the same last month's issue that gave Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch a 7?
Game Informer sucks. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of EGM.
