As much as we rib on him, I don't think "being too proud to do X" is an issue, water heaters notwithstanding.aaron wrote:looks like it's time to start lowering your ridiculously high standards for employment and overcome your adversity to working hard doing stuff you don't like.

Sorry to hear fast.
This will cheer you up; two things my boss said that kept me in her office until 5:30pm:
!) I don't want to micro manage you, I only want a list of what you are doing every hour.
2) I don't know why you would spend an hour of your day talking to an industry leader in our own business.

I always got a chuckle driving past this place on my trips to Buffalo: http://www.amigonefuneralhome.com/main.phpLuke wrote:aaron wrote: there's a funeral home in my girlfriend's hometown named Eikenberry-Eddy.
say it out loud slowly.
Had to google it to be sure.
Yup, that place exists.

Well actually most of the employers are waiting until Memorial Day Weekend (a lot of them, including Try My Nuts, which recently reopened their Avon location, told me this was their intention).aaron wrote:keep at it, man. get a job as soon as possible, even if it sucks. if there's one you can walk/bike to, then by all means do that. save as much money and live as independently as you can given your current situation. this is my advice to you.REPO Man wrote:I've tried pretty much everywhere.
Can't get a job at Taco Bell because it's an hour away and we don't have public transportation and my mom said the van's getting repossessed. There's still a few places I haven't checked yet (Dairy Queen and this one place called Kitty Hawk Kites, where my mom used to work, as well as Wonder Berry, a local frozen yogurt place I used to frequent back in the summer of 2012 when I was raking in roughly $300-500 a week working two jobs) and I still have a few applications to turn in, but the Subway one has to be done on Tuesday since that's when the manager's gonna be in (and when Wonder Berry's gonna be open, since at the moment they're only open 2-8pm Tuesday - Saturday). Gonna try this other place called Gidget's (formerly Topper's Pizza).
As for where I'm gonna end up living once we leave (my uncle's fiance's mother is sick and she's gonna be staying here), hopefully I'll be able to crash with my grandmother on my dad's side (and before you ask, I recently lost my grandmother on my mom's side, and yes it is still something I'm dealing with), like I did a couple of years ago when I needed a place to stay after our old house (which is currently long-abandoned and has flowers growing in the living room).
I wonder if finding a place (a room for rent) and a job in NYC will be any easier. I guess a job would be the hardest part since basically every applicant will be more qualified than me and even if I offer to pay an extra month in advance I'm only getting a slim increase in the chance of moving into the apartment.

There's some place in Augusta called Funeral Alternatives.
Whenever I drive by I think to myself "what's the alternative to a funeral? Not dying?"

Not wasting everyone's time gathering them together around a body/pile of ashes? When I die I expect my body to go out with the rest of the curbside trash.BoneSnapDeez wrote:There's some place in Augusta called Funeral Alternatives.

Medical student body learning donation is where it's at if your organs aren't good enough to go to other people. Then any ashes can fertilize a field somewhere.MrPopo wrote:Not wasting everyone's time gathering them together around a body/pile of ashes? That's not a bad idea. Single organ donations just reduce the urgency to develop 100% artificial organs. I doubt I'll live to see it, but one day I expect we'll reach the point where any body part you have can be replaced with something as good or better, natural tissue or cybernetic, without having to harvest from others like Frankenstein.Hobie-wan wrote:Medical student body learning donation is where it's at if your organs aren't good enough to go to other people.
