Heh. Replace "Wanted" with "Taken" in your previous post, then, and all three movies you mentioned have writing credits for Luc Besson. Was that intentional?Pulsar_t wrote:Oops I was referring to Taken earlier but I guess I had Angelina Jolie on my mind when I wrote the post.
What was the last movie you've seen?

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
There's actually a good reason for that. Luc Besson doesn't write or direct action films, he writes and directs parodies of action films, but does it so well that most folks don't realize he's playing with and making fun of the genre.

Yeah, but God knows Dreamworks tries. Though to be fair, this all goes back to the success of Shrek, and Dreamworks assuming it's their "Toy Story", in that they think that CGI animation would be the it thing, and then spawned "Madagascar", "Over the Hedge", and a host more.Limewater wrote: "Cloudy" reaffirmed that Dreamworks is not Pixar. It's definitely not as good at "The Incredibles" or "Wall-E" or "Up". However, I will say that I laughed out loud way more than I expected to. I thought the humor in the film was great.
They're also doing a film adaptation of "How to Tame Your Dragon". It's apparently got Vikings, and a kid who doesn't kill dragons, and they mock him. But he tames one, obviously, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse is in it.
And he's doing Kick-Ass and a live-action adaptation of Marmaduke.
Maybe he should also play Johnny C in the supposed JTHM film coming out in 2012. They're both skinny, have black hair and I'd love to see him killing someone. That and two of my other choices, Vincent Kartheiser and DJ Qualls, have ages out of the consideration.
But personally, what we need is an Invader Zim movie. Or some kind of continuation of the series.

Was Léon parodical though?Ack wrote:There's actually a good reason for that. Luc Besson doesn't write or direct action films, he writes and directs parodies of action films, but does it so well that most folks don't realize he's playing with and making fun of the genre.

You mean the movie where a somewhat slow hitman who works for the Italian mob falls in love with a 12 year old girl and attempts to train her as a hitman before raging a war against several crooked cops?
I actually see this film as an odd and disturbing romance and character portrait, as opposed to the hardcore action film it seems to be considered. Maybe it's because about half an hour's worth of material was cut for the US, since the test audiences didn't like those scenes.

LEON was creepy. The dinner "date" scene made me feel awkward.Ack wrote:You mean the movie where a somewhat slow hitman who works for the Italian mob falls in love with a 12 year old girl and attempts to train her as a hitman before raging a war against several crooked cops?

THE PROFESSIONAL was semi-creepy.
When I first saw THE PROFESSIONAL I was about the same age as Natalie Portman, and thought she was amazing, as I'm guessing everyone else did. When she did her dress-up scene, I was infatuated with her.
Now, when I see that scene, I almost feel disgusted. Don't get me wrong, I still adore the movie, but I just find that scene unnecessary. Could just be me.
The feel of the film is very Film Noir. It would be interesting to watch in black and white, which I just may do tonight.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I don't know if I'd call the costume scene "necessary", but I also wouldn't call it "unnecessary." I think a lot of scenes in the film (especially the original cut) were intended to make the viewer (and Leon) uncomfortable. Also, I do think Luc Besson does kind of have a thing for young girls.Luke wrote: LEON was creepy. The dinner "date" scene made me feel awkward.

For what it's worth, I'm not a big fan of Natalie Portman. She was great in Leon, but I don't think she's ever really gotten any better as an actress, and I haven't really liked too many movies she's been in. Leon, Heat, and Closer are about it.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
As much as I love Natalie, I hated CLOSER. It's like watching two hours of arguments. Arguments I've already had in the past. That scene with her in a thong is awes, but not worth watching the whole movie for.Limewater wrote: For what it's worth, I'm not a big fan of Natalie Portman.
