I saw Star Trek (the new one) on Friday. I thought it was pretty good.

Yeah, The day the earth stood still remake sucked.
Just saw "Slipstream" which was directed and starred Anthony Hopkins. Wow, what a steaming pile of crap. I'm open to abstract movie ideas but there were very few redeeming qualities about this flick. Sloppy mtv style editing was supposed to add to the effect but just comes off as lazy. It's disappointing because there were some almost well done scenes in the movie, such as Christian Slater's rant in a diner which was very terantino-esque and could have been a great scene in a more cohesive film. The scenes following the crew of a rapidly derailing production were pretty good too, but again, the fact that the movie was an incoherent mess made the good scenes pointless.

Wanted had so much ridiculousness in it it was actually HILARIOUS. If you expect your action movie to be intellectual and sensible then you're simply in the wrong genre! Though yes I do miss the old days when making movies like Léon: The Professional was possible.I mentioned earlier that people don't go to action movies expecting a decent story anymore, and it's a sad truth. Perhaps there's just not enough money these days in putting decent screenwriting before slam-bang action. We seem to have forgotten that we can have our cake and eat it too. Though an embarrassingly entertaining diversion, From Paris With Love also reflects much of what is lacking in contemporary action films.

I liked Wanted. I thought it was hilarious and absurd because it was supposed to be hilarious and absurd. I didn't think they were trying to create a realistic action movie. It was action the same way X-men was action - scenes where things are being done that aren't possible in the real world. It makes me sad when people forget this when seeing films, they look for if something is really possible and if it isn't they automatically shun it.
I have not seen From Paris With Love, but Travolta is really getting on my nerves lately. What's with the new Bruce Willis look he's been sporting in his last couple of films?

I enjoyed "Wanted" as well, but it was deeply stupid apart from the over-the-top abilities of the main characters. The entire MacGuffin of the loom using binary code in its weave to communicate was ridiculous for many reasons. Also, for a group whose stated goal was to kill one person to save a thousand, they had absolutely no regard for collateral damage.vash23n wrote: I liked Wanted. So, yeah, I enjoyed "Wanted", but it was stupid for reasons completely separate from whether or not what happened in the film was possible. Note: I never read the comic books, so I don't know what having knowledge of the source material does to affect one's enjoyment of the film.
Also, I watched both "The Princess and the Frog" and "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" this weekend. They gave the black Disney Princess the short end of the stick, if you asked me, though this was the first Disney animated film I've seen since "The Lion King".
"Cloudy" reaffirmed that Dreamworks is not Pixar. It's definitely not as good at "The Incredibles" or "Wall-E" or "Up". However, I will say that I laughed out loud way more than I expected to. I thought the humor in the film was great.

Oops I was referring to Taken earlier but I guess I had Angelina Jolie on my mind when I wrote the post.
