Sonic Wings Special - a sweet JP PSOne release that was made available on PSN for those in NA.

I enjoyed using the american guy with the parrot, plus they give you 9 credits to start!

Have been chugging away at this one on both Vita and PS3. I like that you continue right where you last were EXCEPT at what i'd presume is the last level so an exceptional challenge there. There are 8 different characters to use, which is really cool too.

I cleared it on Easy and Normal and I'm 7th on the leaderboard for Easy and 11th on the leaderboard for Normal.

EDIT: Cleared it on Hard as well 6th in the table for Hard, also moved up to 4th in the Easy leaderboard.

My Gamecube kick has me trying to beat a bunch of the games of the system I haven't beaten before. One of these games is Ikaruga.

I've been putting in a fair bit of time to beat this one. I know I'll upset a few of you by saying I've been making use of both the extra lives option in the menu and the extra continues you unlock - my goal with the game is to beat it, on normal difficulty, even if it takes the maximum number of continues and lives to do so. I will be drawing the line when unlimited continues start being offered though - I'll stop at the maximum limited number.

I have the first half of the game down pat - I can beat stages 1 and 2 without dying quite a lot of the time, and the same goes for most of stage 3 - up until the midboss who absolutely destroys me and normally takes 1 of those continues from me. The end of stage 3 boss then normall takes another.

I haven't come up with a good tactic for stage 4-2 yet. I'm getting better at dealing with the crazy laser spam, but I often die to suicide bullets from the hundreds of enemies who pour in.

My furthest run so far, with 5 credits, has me using credit 1 on the stage 3 midboss, 2 on the stage 3 boss, 3 & 4 on stage 4-2 and my 5th and final ran out on the stage 4 boss.

Completed Space MegaForce on Friday. That was alot of fun. Then I moved towards playing Fast Striker and Sturmwind.
Not long after, this finally arrived. Played last night. So much fun and quite addicting.

I dunno if it counts as a shmup, but I recently tried out Project Root (PS4/Vita) because it was on sale. I guess it has roots in the old EA Strike games... sort of. Either way, it was utter garbage and I deleted it after the first level... and even that was a chore. I'll still be writing (ranting) about it on my Shmup Diary series over at my blog... after that, I'll be continuing with Gradius and 194x series, and I'm itching to give Darius a try once I figure out how to set up the triple screen...
