I had a case of that here, where it made my stomach churn and made me very much dislike a character whose side Tarantino seemed to want you to be on.

I feel like, considering the two westerns Tarantino has done, Django was much better. I like the tension building in Hateful Eight, but the flaws seemed too large to me.

I know the scene you're talking about, and I could see how it could affect people. I think it fits with the overall theme and characterization honestly, but I can understand why you feel the other way.

This one's definitely going to be polarizing. It's still a Tarantino flick, but it's not as dripping with his work as Django was.

I wasn't so sure that scene was meant to be taken literally. He got the reaction he was looking for, I think that's the point.

As for the movie. It felt half baked to me. I love Tarantino's stuff, but this may be my least favorite. I feel like he was on a progressive trajectory with Death Proof, Kill Bill, IB, and Django, really exploring the genres and adding his own flavor. Somehow this one just seemed, I don't know, less. I did enjoy it though. IB and Django are on another level in my opinion.

I guess I expected a lot. I do enjoy westerns but they are not my favorite genre, even still this was far from my favorite "western" if you could call it that at all.

 - You got me there. I started to say "Grindhouse"...thought I was making a correction.

Fixing now.

By the way noise, I've got some more horror movie vudu/ultraviolet codes to spare if you want them. Just PM me if you're interested.

For me personally, while it fit the characterization, in a movie where I'm supposed to hate everybody, I ended up hating that character the most out of them all. I think 90% of this would be fixed for me if I had just been told this story, rather than shown it.

@jp1, I understand that the story is false and for a reaction. I just really have issues with what happens, to even suggest it as a joke is too far for me. The closest Tarantino has ever touched on such a thing was in Pulp Fiction, and the one on the receiving end got his chance at revenge. Being an exploitation and B Movie junkie, that is the one thing that I can't handle in media of any kind. Family trait though, when my Uncle was still a cop they had to pull him from every case related to that, even if the accused wasn't innocent, because of the level of anger it caused.

And it was piss poor as a western. The time period allowed for an advantage in discussing race, but otherwise this could have been set in just about any other time period post-slavery and would have worked nearly as well. Influence wise, I saw some Peckinpah moments, especially the second to last scene. Tension building seemed Spaghetti-esque to an extent, but not enough to pull it in. Watching it at the Alamo Drafthouse, pre-movie they played a Cutthroats Nine trailer, and I can see where Tarantino might have been influenced, especially taking certain areas into account, but IMO Cutthroats did a much better job.

Finally saw TFA this past Monday, and yeah, it felt like a lot of the movie was mashing together parts of the previous movies. It makes a lot of franchise sense, but narratively...playing as half-reboot may not flow too well down the road when watching the films all together.
On the other hand, it did a great job of introducing and selling us on the core cast of characters, which seem solid (okay, Rey is fantastic). Kylo Ren seems like he'll be a Darth Vader that won't need a prequel trilogy to try and explain, even if he's not as intimidating yet.

Felt like they did a great job defining an updated Star Wars universe and cast to hopefully turn around and tell a great story with in the future movies.

Accidentally posted this bit to the wrong forum area:

Saw Force Awakens. Kinda want to smack the people who are all "no spoilers, bro!" because, really, Star wars is inherently cyclic. And there are really no unexpected turns of events. That said, I did rather enjoy it and would not at all have been "ruined" by hearing what passes for a plot twist. Sure, sure, there's some repeated themes and even scenes, but for the most part they are respectful and not simply gratuitous (there are, of course, a couple exceptions). Also not too fond of a couple "Hollywood-y" action scenes that I think would have been more artistically interesting had they been simpler and more straight-forward. Still, I did love the entire thing and how it came together. The new cast is quite interesting.

Well, since it's now 2016, I have to say I had a good year for movies and short films in 2015. I watched a total of 239 films that I had never before seen across a variety of genres, time periods, and from a variety of countries. Most of these names will be the English titles that I saw them under for the sake of simplicity, though quite a few have different names, even in the US.

The best is hard to declare, because there were many classics mixed in. I loathe picking a favorite among the likes of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Captains Courageous, or Z. The worst I saw was a minor French horror movie called Devil Story, followed closely by R.O.T.O.R. those are two of the worst movies I have ever watched.

That's quite the feat, I only managed about 50 last years. I'll save your list in a text file to have a look at later.

I can see why Indians loved this movie, even I enjoyed watching it, despite the drawn-out scenes and overt emotional "manipulation".

When are we getting a REAL sequel to this?

God only knows how many HM-friendly animated shorts are out there.

Not a sequel in terms of the story, but another anthology of segments done by different animators.
