What was the last movie you've seen?

Bridge of Spies is really good probably my favorite film of the year :). Pretty much can't go wrong with anything Tom Hanks is involved in  .

Burial Ground

The Earth shall tremble...
graves shall open...
they shall come among the living as messengers of death, and there shall be the nigths of terror...

"Profecy of the Black Spider"

I didn't misspell anything, this is exactly how it's written in the postcript for Burial Ground. Nobody cared enough about this movie to even bother checking if they spelled the end credit message correctly.

Yeah, Burial Ground, yet another early 1980s Italian zombie grindhouse horror movie. It's like a Fulci zombie movie, only with less plot and fewer eye-gouging scenes. About the same number of maggots though.

A scientist accidentally unleashes an ancient curse to make the dead rise, just in time for a bunch of his European friends to arrive at his mansion out in the middle of Bumfuck Nowhere, Italy. There's no phone, no lights, no motor cars, not a single luxury. So what do a bunch of Italians do when there is nothing to do? They have sex, of course! That's when the living dead show up...or at least they show up after one of the lovely Italian ladies gets caught in the act with a man who is totally not her husband by her totally-not-a-40-year-old-midget son...WHO IS TOTALLY A 40-YEAR-OLD MIDGET! Anyway, zombies show up, start killing folks, reveal they can use tools and are crafty bastards, and then proceed to kick ass. That's when the midget suddenly reveals he's totally into his hot mom. She says no, he gets killed, everybody freaks out and runs to a monastery, monk zombies attack, and then dead 40-year-old midget son shows back up and his mom totally gives into his incest fantasy, only to find out why we don't let zombies breastfeed. It's a bad idea, folks!

Author Danny Shipka claims that this movie helped to kill off the ongoing Italian zombie rip-off movie fad in the early 1980s. While that's not entirely true(Zombi 3 and Zombi 4 came out years later), 1983 definitely saw fewer zombie movies. Then again the Italians seemed to be getting more into Mad Max rip-offs at the time, so perhaps this movie just helped replace one short-lived fascination with another.

Anyway, should you watch it? If you like Fulci's Zombi 2 but felt it needed less plot, tension, quality special effects, and budget, then yeah, go ahead. I think there's better stuff out there though. I mean, this isn't Hell of the Living Dead bad, but I've seen epic fail videos with better production value. Do yourself a favor, go watch Street Trash instead.

I went to the midnight launch last night at iMax, and loved it. You can tell it was made by a Star Wars fan, there are nods all over the place and the world actually feels like it belongs in the universe. The ships, the space stations, the planets, all fit perfectly with the original trilogy.

I won't go into any details in the slightest to avoid spoilers of any kind, but other than a few plot points of what happened between VI and VII, which I found weak and a few "that seems unlikely moments" I utterly loved the film and it sits up there with the best of them and blows the prequel movies out of the water.

I do wish J. J. Abrams was running the show on the next two.

I go home from work in about an hour, then I try to go to sleep, then wake up for the 1 am beginning of the marathon. It's going to be epic.

I ended up going to an arcade with my dad and we played Star Wars Episode 1 and Revenge From Mars pinball for like two hours before we went to the film. Good night of entertainment.

I can see why people like this but it just didn't grab me.

What I thought would be a steamy '70s sex dramedy about a young man's exploits with a comely teacher during the summer after high school, but what follows is much more.

I believe Kevin Thomas, film critic for the Los Angeles Times, said it best:

"The plot of "The Teacher" isn't worth outlining, yet it develops a relationship between a 28-year-old woman and an 18-year-old high school boy with sensitivity and credibility unusual for an exploitation film. [...] Avedis displays much concern for his people and allows Miss Tompkins and North plenty of room to give fresh, spontaneous performances."

DEMON CITY SHINJUKU

I first saw this on what is now known as Syfy (hate hate HATE the name) back in the late '90s, when they used to play anime films every Saturday at 11am.

Awesome feature! Dingy, gritty, well-drawn, an overall worthwhile anime film!

I've always thought that the remake Black X-Mas was better than the original Black Christmas. Shrug.

But is it Fulci tasty?

I don't know, I haven't seen the remake yet.
