I'm with you. Figuratively of course.

Holidays are excuses to have fun, plain and simple. Sure, not everyone wants to get together for President's Day but at the same time why not wear a stovepipe hat and invite friends over for a chocolate and cherry Lincoln log?

Life is much more enjoyable with a dash of humor. I'm a grown adult who still finds fun in dyeing Easter Eggs, wearing a sombrero on Cinco de mayo, having green beer on Paddy's Day, and planting a tree on Earth Day. Again, sometimes in life you need an excuse to have fun with friends and family (and I usually find every excuse possible).

Ack wrote:It should be noted that Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, in which a much smaller and poorly equipped Mexican force held off a French invasion on its own while the US was busy fighting the Civil War. There is a belief amongst some historians that the French under Napolean III would have entered the Civil War on the side of the Confederacy if they had been successful in their invasion of Mexico, in a long bid to end the American Union and gain greater control in the region.

So consider Cindo de Mayo as the day Mexico saved the US Union.
That's also pretty awesome. Good to know. Thanks for the info man!

Yup. Good stuff good stuff! As said above, I certainly have nothing against knowing more about the holidays I'm celebrating, but as long as my loved ones and I are chillin' (or my friends, or whatever the occasion calls for), then it's fine by me.

Oddly enough I have a know it all friend that I argued with last night to the point where Google had to come into play.

Wait. It isn't odd I have a friend who is a know it all.

Anyway, like most people, she swore that 5/5 was "Mexican Liberation Day". I believe that's because our schools don't have (at least in NC) Mexican Heritage Month, or something similar like Mexican History Month. Kind of a shame seeing as NC has a wealth of 1st gen Mexicans.

Smile/Ticked - My wife and I are rearranging our den so we can fit in a projector into our existing media setup. The issue is that we are working in fractions of an inch on how the screen will fit. So what might happen is the Record player may have to move to behind our wetbar, which would give us about two inches to play with on the screen. The end goal is tv for every day use, but when we watch a movie, we hit a button and the screen comes down, the projector rises up from a side table, and the bluray player source swaps from TV to Projector. Now I can do all of it, but the projector riser. To do that I will have to scratch build a scissor lift, or some other lifting mechanism, and I just have not grasped that bit of engineering yet.

Smile/Frown

Big interview today. The anticipation is killing me. Luckily it's over the phone, since I'm pretty fidgety at first. I assume there will be an in person interview later on, it'll be easier after this certainly.

Still. Can't stop fidgeting.

Duder, let me give you some free advice that has helped other racketeers (and a ton of other people).

Stand up, and pace while speaking. Don't run yourself out of breath, but stay active as it changes the inflection of your voice.

Smile. Sounds silly as they can't see you smiling, but again it makes a world of difference.

Be succinct with answers, long winded with questions.

Have a notepad, laptop (with google on), and a calculator* at hand.

Act like you already have the job. No "I plan on" or "I want to's". Use "I will(s)".

You'll knock it out of the park Ryan. Be a super confident "yourself" and you'll gold. No worries if you want to tell the interviewer that you are really "excited" about the call (this actually helps) but never say you are anxious, which describes negative thoughts.

Best of luck buddy.

*I don't know how good you are at math and basic equations, but when I'm in a meeting and someone asks "what is X times/divided by/plus/etc. Y equal" I'm the first one to blurt out an answer. Reinforces that your brain is functioning. On the phone, they don't know you have a calculator so they may think you are a whiz.

I always stand up and walk around with that type of a phone call. In fact, with any type of call, I rarely sit down. I usually walk around while on the phone. It's a compulsion for some reason.

I'm glad you're comfortable talking on the phone for an interview. I'm the opposite.

Good luck !

Finished the interview. I think it went well. We shall see. Just sent my follow up email. :)

Pfft don't have to tell me. I always pace when I'm on the phone. Doesn't matter who.

Thanks! I really think I did well with it. If I get this job, even if it's likely only temporary, it should open great opportunities in the future in several areas.

Do not get me wrong, I'm less comfortable on the phone too. The difference is they can't see how uncomfortable I am. :P
