Heck if I know. Lost track of it earlier this year.

Ducktales Remastered (360)
I went into this pretty much blind having only ever played the original via its Game Boy port.

On that I can't really say much to how the levels themselves have been altered, outside of obvious stuff, but I can say that this is a pretty excellent game regardless.

I do have some issues with certain aspects of the game, namely jumping from ropes and hit detection, but I'd say this is as good a 2D platformer I've played in a while. Pogoing is easy to do and the non-linear levels are tons of fun to explore.

There is one big bugbear that come with this update though and that is an absolute surfeit of cutscenes both inbetween and during levels.

I appreciate Disney getting the original cast back to voice these scenes and I also appreciate how this was done to familiarise a younger audience to the Ducktales property but it's very irritating to have the exquisite gameplay broken into so frequently. You can skip it though so it's not game breaking.

That and as good as Jake Kaufman usually is, I think the last thing the Transylvania soundtrack needed was a dubstep bass drop.

I think I prefer the way the Castle of Illusion remake was handled over this but I this is still a great game and one that a Ducktales fan needs to own.

Speed Freaks (PS1)
Speed Freaks (or Punks in America) is an excellent mascot kart racer in desperate need of a good license.

We are presented with some pretty hideous and hilariously 90's kid racers stereotypes (including a blatant Bart Simpson rip) which is a shame because the rest of the game is up with Wipeout 3 and Crash 3 in terms of graphical ability.

It also plays really well and handles a bit differently to most kart racers focusing more of precision drifts to maintain momentum rather than gain boosts. Instead you collect icons that build up a boost meter that you activate manually.

It's a subtle change to the regular formula but one that gives the game a feel closer to maybe a Ride Racer or the aforementioned Wipeout.

And it gets pretty tough as well as your opponents use their boost wisely and will take shortcuts, sometime taking shortcuts you didn't even know existed. In truth the way to master this game is to keep a close eye on where your opponents go and how they take the corners, adjusting your own line accordingly.

Speed Freaks would have been well remembered if it had anything approaching a decent cast of characters. If it'd been Hey, Arnold! Kart people would look back fondly on it and say, yes, I played Hey Arnold! Kart and it was pretty cool.

Out Run (GBA)
Actually a fairly competent port all things considered, although the roads seem a bit narrower than usual and the graphics have been redone and are darker because of it. Most surprisingly the music has come out ok which is pretty good considering the hardware. This is what a SNES port of Out Run might look like in a parallel universe.

Curtain (PC)
Curtain describes itself as a lo-fi narrative about a dysfunctional relationship but I'd say it's more the anti-Gone Home, at least thematically.

Whereas last years indie darling was about piecing together a blossoming relationship through scraps of paper and awful riotgrrl mixtapes, Curtain is about looking through bleary eyes at a relationship in meltdown and teetering dangerously close to violence and suicide.

Because of that it's not a particularly nice game either to play or to look at (the game has a washed out and blurry palette which makes objects hard to define) but it is a game that has something to say, a more human story to tell and a shocking but probably more realistic end.

So yeah, like Gone Home but instead of being set in some yuppie's dreamhouse it's set in a neon, blurry, depressing, beer can strewn Glasgow tower block and I think it's brilliant because of that.

Art games, wooo!

Ninja Gaiden II kicked my tail. Usually I think of it as the easiest of the trilogy, so either I was having a bad night, or perhaps I have been wrong all these years.
You beat the US Version Ninja Gaiden 3? Wow, I bow to your skills. The Famicom version was challenging itself even with unlimited continues. I think I died 50+ times alone on the Stage 7-3 section where you have to jump onto the disappearing platforms while 2 helicopter mechs are flying at you from both directions.
