Yup. It gets you to your Gyarados goal much quicker when Magikarp hatch. I also got a Spearow today with good CP, he will become a Fearow.

Other than that, I made roughly 20-30 Pokéstops today and picked up around 15 of all the types of Potions. With them, I healed 5 out of the 7 Pokémon I needed. My front line Pokémon are all ready to battle again. But tomorrow, I plan on staying as long as I can in an area with 4 Pokéstops within 50 feet of each other, and I'll be using a Lucky Egg for 5-6 evolutions I plan on doing, also using Incense and a Lure Module to benefit myself and others (it's a popular spot), there's also a Gym that was Mystic controlled the last time I passed it, but no battles until I can amass spare potions. I'm getting closer to Level 21 and the reward of 10 Hyper Potions.

Today was good, I stayed at a local church with 4, count 'em 4 Pokéstops. It even had a Gym.

You notice the gym is red.

I know, I know "Exed, stop fighting! You need potions!" Well the good news is:

1) I got a ton of potions (and even have roughly 15 total left over now)
2) Everyone I met there today was on Valor (even the cops doing a Pokémon Go awareness patrol handing out flyers and water bottles were on Valor!)
3) I got some good eggs out of the way (my 3rd Pikachu, there was even a badge for that!)

Finally, something large showed up on my tracker. I loaded up Pokévision to get an exact fix, and managed to get this new one!

I also got Nidorino from another Lucky Egg evolution period. Not only am I nearly at halfway on the Pokédex, I am now less than 10k away from 21.

Does venomoth pop up much for any of you? Never seen one before, nabbed it yesterday and it (for me) had a high CP in the 300s ranking it #3 in my list.

I evolved one and caught one, it was in the 600-700 range.

I am pleased to announce a super-useful new website that will be of great help to all trainers.

http://www.pokemongomap.info/

This map lists nearly 3 million Pokéstops and Gyms. They're not separated as such, but you can click on the locations on the map and mark them as gyms; the more votes they get, the more likely they'll show up as them. Very useful, I had no idea there were so many stops near me (mainly in the cemeteries, for example!)

I also leveled up to 21! 10 more Hyper Potions!

Awesome!

There were about 100 locations around me that weren't marked on there. But I sent a request and they should all be up now (the ones within a 20-mile radius, anyway). I marked a couple I knew to be Gyms as such, and also put in another request for a scan for a town nearby. Hopefully they'll be a few more inclusions to the map in a few minutes 8)

*Edit: They're up.

It also said it gave me points, but I don't know what those points are for

The points on the site seem to be an experience level of some sort. I see a bar if you log in with Google on the left. I just marked off the spots I know are gyms so far. There's a lot more spots that I even knew about, and even some are where I like to go play arcade games at, so that's perfect, play and restock

EDIT: Gyms are starting to appear as red cubes on my map when I logged into Google. Regular spots are still in blue.

Oh, and yes I took a gym today. Easily. Only used less than 5 potions too. Vaporeon's still there. Also had a ton of eggs hatch today, all rerun Pokémon but getting closer to evolving a few new ones. My focus for now is still item acquisition. I've got more than enough Pokéballs now (over 250 and putting a hard limit on those), I'm getting more Great Balls and the level up also got me 10 more Ultra Balls, as well as finding those at stops too. Still trashing Revives (saving some for battles) and berries.

Heads up to all those who fight in Gym battles!

Niantic rolled out an in-game update (not one you can download) that took away power from many of the the quick (tap) moves and added power to many of the the charge (long-press) moves.

Here's a list of the more significant increases -

This next image shows all the moves in the game. Some didn't increase or decrease in power.

This should be easier for Pokémon to hold gyms (for example, the Vaporeon I put in the gym last night that's still there now has Hydro Pump and that attack jumped from 60 to 90) but tougher for those who are on the offensive.

This update is also a reminder that STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) is super critical, now more than ever. If you've got a Pokémon with the same attack types as its Pokémon type, you do more damage!

I've never seen the likes of krabby or horsea before in the game but snapped up both today, and it must be because our guess about rain causes them to pop up as it wasn't in an area anywhere near a small pond, lake, creek or otherwise.

New versions now available on iOS and Android.

I'm stealing this blurb from Silph Road because it explains the new features best.

The Good

Avatars - We are seeing an option to customize trainer appearance (after creation)! This bodes well for future customizeability.

Battle - For those who missed it, Damage Per Second (DPS) has been revamped for nearly every move in the game, bringing balance to the force. This makes combat immensely more fun.

Nest Shakeup - A majority of nests around the world are now spawning different species! It's great to see species variety like this, though it appears certain species (Dratini...) have been made significantly more difficult to acquire for now.

Transfer Button - This button is no longer at the bottom of the Pokemon details screen! This will make transferring much more efficient. You are also prevented from accidentally transferring a 'favorite' pokemon.

Bug fixes - Tons of bug fixes in this update, including with maps, Gyms, encounters, and memory leaks

The Unknown

Damage Calculation - Apart from modifying the DPS for most moves, there appears to be a change to the damage formula itself. Details are scarce right now - research is ongoing!

The Controversial

Distance Indicator (Steps) - The 'nearby' pane appears to have removed the 'steps' altogether. The last we've heard about the motivation for this controversial decision is that it was due to safety concerns. While we don't necessarily agree with this decision, we'll have to see how it plays out.

Fortunately, it at least appears that there's a silver lining:

It appears that Pokemon you've spotted on the map now stay on the map for roughly 300m (an increased distance)

So while we no longer can use the steps to triangulate Pokemon distance, it appears they should be much easier to actually encounter once they appear on the nearby scanner.

So the good is certainly all the bug fixes, the easier to get to transfer button, and the avatar customizations (I got all red clothes now for Valor).

As for my day it went well. I went back to Four Stop Church again, and was super productive.

Catches:

Beedrill (at the cost of nearly 30 Great Balls/10 Ultra Balls)
Geodude
Kingler

Hatches:

Growlithe
Grimer (more on that below)

I also picked up extra potions (up to 45!) and 7 brand new eggs (1 2km, 5 5km, and 1 10km)

Finally, my Vaporeon is still at the gym I left it at, 30 hours in and COUNTING. It turns out a fellow Valor member also left a Vaporeon with the same CP as mine (1411) in this gym, and with the new DPS/move changes, it makes a Vaporeon a lot tougher to take on.

A word about Grimer/Muk: It's great if you catch one, but touching it on your Pokémon list may cause your app to crash. It has something to do with the 3D modeling of it. It does on mine whenever I touch it and many other users have reported the same thing. This also affects the Pokémon next to/adjacent to the Grimer/Muk in your inventory because you can swipe left or right to bring the next Pokémon up from your list (a user on Reddit surmises that because the 3D model is pre-loaded that way on each side to the left and right, it would cause a Pokémon you're viewing next to the Grimer/Muk to freeze as well) and as of right now the bug hasn't been fixed. This freezing has also been reported on the main map if a wild Grimer or Muk is sighted, and putting one in a Gym has also caused freezes for players. My advice, sort the Pokémon out in such a way that the Grimer/Muk isn't next to one you want to examine or transfer until the bug is fixed, do not leave any at Gyms, and hope that you don't see one in the wild or have one hatched until this issue is fixed.

Enjoy the new version! It seems to be running better here, save for the aformentioned issue.
