You'd be amazed at how little the neighbors might be influenced. I don't remember the Yugoslav wars being felt here.

I also always wondered what it must have been like to be Swiss during WW2

disturbing videos from Syria, those are leaked as there is no press to cover the events. No one is crazy to go in there.

Abusing a revolutionist :

Here a soldier that decided to join the revolutionists as he refuses to join in the massacre, he is being forced to say "Bashar is God", something too strong for a muslim man:

here abusing an old man:

Another man abused and forced to smile for the camera:

What's happening in Syria is what I feared would happen when the US bypassed UN disapproval and staged the pre-emptive strike on Iraq back in 2003. The last ten years have seen my country squander its international clout and political capital to the point where unilateral intervention is impossible.

China and Russia both have economic and military ties to the region that make it impossible for them to vote against Bashar Al Assad's regime until they have assurances that whatever form of government takes over would honor their previous agreements and arrangements.

tl;dr: The world no longer has the stomach for intervention now that there is an incident worth intervening in.

Yup, that post right there pretty much explains the entire problem.

What saddens me more is how the USA and other powers quick intervention in places like Libya and Iraq in 2003, where the situation was no where as bad as what is going now in Syria, but now with Syria, everyone is giving the blind eye...why? It really makes me think of the conspiracy theory....

Libya and Syria have nothing to do with Iraq. Libya was an easy case cause the regimes only allies where European countries (France and Italy mostly, though I don't know if Germany also had some interests since they didn't take part in the NATO operation), and they had a public opinion to answer to and they couldn't be seen as supporting a regime which started killing its own people. China and Russia couldn't care less what their public opinion thought about Syria (though Syria is really Russia's turf, but I guess China liked playing "I have a big dick now too") so as long as they support the regime the other countries can't "legally" intervene, and the biggest problem will be a political one.

Basically we must convince Russia to go in itself and take Assad out, so when the country changes hands, its new rulers feel indebted to Russia, to the country stays under its influence.
