Oh man, I know Mark said he was having fun (after a while *cough*) in the game, but holy shit DEHR looks like it is every bit as terrible as the first game. Dumb AI, bad acting. Looks pretty sub par compared to all of those bullshots that have been floating around too.

CGR 360 DEHR review:
Have you played it yet?

I know you disliked Deus Ex. From what I remember of your thoughts on it, you felt the game attempted to do considerably more than it was capable of doing, and as a result it fell flat. But considering the technology and scope of games have changed, it's possible that this one managed to handle the changes.

I haven't played it yet, and I've only played a little of the first, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and sit down with both.

PS: Don't play the original like a straight up shooter.

CGR's review of DXHR was pretty humorous though, does make me kind of want to play through the game as "The Terminator" blasting through everything, haha.

I have not, but even Mark's usual infectious ability to find fun in even mediocre games doesn't have me convinced.

I also found the story of the original to be terrible, among other things. In Mark's review we were only shown a few bits of horribly acted dialog and he found the game boring until getting a way in and powering up. Then the rest of the review is him running around blowing shit up. The fact he had to slog through a slow beginning, then focused on mayhem and didn't really mention the story is troubling IMHO.

I looked up some more screenshots after Mr Popo accused me of having no taste again and just about every one of them has an odd look about it.

Some examples:
I'm assuming this is an in game shot because of the jaggies in a few places. The dude looks odd and painted. Lots of stuff in the office looks oddly flat, especially stuff along the back wall. http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article ... 202113.jpg

The people look like cardboard cutouts that have been shrunkwrapped and placed in the room. http://thenexusnews.com/wp-content/uplo ... hot-13.jpg

The plastic people are being tossed around the room. They are reflecting the blue light like crazy, but nothing in the room is, so they look ever more like cutouts. http://thenexusnews.com/wp-content/uplo ... hot-12.jpg

If only there were some more bloom in this shot. http://thenexusnews.com/wp-content/uplo ... hot-19.jpg

Light shining on his forehead lighting up the top half of his face, but it isn't lighting up his shoulders or the back of his hand. His vest looks like a flat cardboard cutout. The guy totally looks like someone's first attempt at assembling bits and pieces out of magazines in Photoshop. The face, arms, and body all look like they came from different places. http://thenexusnews.com/wp-content/uplo ... hot-22.jpg

Everything looks 3D in this shot except the lady's face. It looks nice, but it looks like someone just pasted that in a screenshot. http://thenexusnews.com/wp-content/uplo ... hot-24.jpg

More flat looking cardboard people. http://thenexusnews.com/wp-content/uplo ... hot-26.jpg

I suppose I can look if my one friend who might get it does, but it just doesn't look good to me.

Dude come on Hobie lol, how old are half those pictures? And seriously can't you see the difference in quality in CGR's review in actually seeing the game in action? There is no denying those screenshots are butt ugly, but the game looks quite a bit better when you're actually playing it... again, just watching that review or other videos online the difference is clear compared to those nasty screens. You can get ugly screenshots of any game out there, I've seen tons of Rage but I know that game is going to look gorgeous in action.

I actually didn't find any of those screenshots ugly.

Besides, so what if the game is ugly? Hobie, you of all people should know that graphics don't necessarily make the game. Now if the story is slow and the action drab, that might be more to consider. But even if I generally agree with a reviewer, I still have to play the game to find out for myself.

I wasn't all that impressed with the video in the review either. Most of the time when the game was in motion it was all right, but when looking at the prostitutes especially near the beginning of the video, they had the same oddness to them. Now maybe I'm wrong, but between the video and those screenshots, old or not, they had something that just looked... wrong to me.

I'm well aware of that too. I generally agree with Mark's reviews as I tend to watch them for games I already have since he is entertaining. I'm sure I'm prejudiced by my hate of the first game, but his negative points stuck out at me.
2:15 At first DEHR is slow and awkward, like Mass Effect 2 meets Fallout 3, only with less refined visuals and awkward acting, but give the game some time.
4:50 If you give the game some time it becomes incredibly fun.
So there are 2 previous DE games, even though they are by a a different company, shouldn't they have figured out how to make the game fun from the start? If Mark of all people has to make the excuse twice that you have to give the game some time to be fun, that's a red flag to me. At 3:47 he describes the AI as 'awful' and I saw examples of enemies standing there being bullet magnets in the video.

He was reviewing the 360 version, but look how choppy the game is around 2:50. That spin as Jensen goes down the ladder and the turn in the hallway right after that are atrocious. Those are hallways, not even open environments. Near the end of the review he mentions that there is a plot, but that's it. Must not have made much of an impression on him. Considering how people rave about the story in the first game (even though I didn't like it), that also strikes me as a bad sign. The physics look awful, easiest to find is the bit right at the end of the video.

I was actually trying to be open to give the new game a chance. The idea of the game play in the DE games is awesome. Freedom to do things more than one way, multiple upgrades that actually kinda force you to make a choice instead of just grinding until you max everything out. But the first game failed miserably to me (I forced myself to play the entire thing) and watching even that mostly positive review from someone I usually agree with made the new one look terrible.

But whatever, I know I'm one of 3 people in the entire world that don't like DE and everyone will just say I'm a hater and I'm just shitting in this thread. So I'm done.

I don't care for platformers and thus don't care for Sonic or Mario games either. I don't enjoy that genre so I joke about those as that's an unpopular opinion too. But I don't actively hate them like I do DE so they don't send me into rambling diatribes. :P

Oh, remembered another point I was going to make. People keep complaining that FPS games are gray and brown. DEHR is gray and brown in every screenshot I've seen. Ok except that one there with the red sign. Even the first one managed some splashes of color every now and then.
