Well I think it's cool when the ROMs make it to daylight, but if the game sucks than it doesn't affect me. If Barbie Super Star Dancer is a really FUN unreleased game, than I would like to see a ROM image of it.

Hrm... I have dozens of unreleased prototype/beta games from my SNES disk backup days.

I'm yet to see anyone who's got a copy of my SNES Earthworm Jim beta. Heaps of differences between it and the final game.

I should probably get around to putting them on the web somewhere I guess. Problem is I need to load up DOS with the extended floppy readers so I can load the images off my 1.6MB fomatted 3.5" disks.

One day I'll find the motivation to get that done...

Daze is a very good game, the ROM has been out for some time. Can't remember if I played it on SNES or MegaDrive via emulator as it has been ages since I used emulators. Worth having!

I say do it soon, floppies and magnetic media are the bane of data storage in the long term route.

Yes, good point.

The 1.6MB "overformatting" supported by the old GameDoctor and WildCard backup units was notorious for destroying floppies too. I'm hoping they've survived the 20+ years in storage...

I'll try and dedicate some time over Christmas to it. Hopefully I've still got my old DOS tools to extract the data from these things. I'm fairly sure I also backed it all up to CDROM at some point too (a small amount of foresight there about a decade back), so there'll be another adventure tracking that down from the bowels of my games room.

That's awesome. If you do, I can recommend at least one reliable ROM website that might let you donate them. It has a ton of ROMs, all of which have been verified as good. The website has great uptime, and seems to never get pulled either, and doesn't have outrageous ads all over the pages. I have been using it for years.

Anyway, how did you acquire all of these games in the first place?
And I assume you are talking about titles that haven't even been
dumped as of yet.

Yeah, Id love to see that as well, that is, if it even exists in a ROM or an actual hardware format. For those who don't know there are also two known prototype versions of EWJ2 (for the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis) and one prototype of EWJ 3D for the N64 & PC.

There is much more information regarding the prototype EWJ available here:
http://www.unseen64.net/2008/07/30/earthworm-jim-snesmd-beta

There is much more information regarding the prototype EWJ2 available here:

There is much more information regarding the prototype EWJ available here:
http://www.unseen64.net/2008/06/04/earthworm-jim-3d-n64-beta/

As far as I know, the prototype version of EWJ & EWJ 3D have never been found. On the other hand, both prototype versions of the Sega Mega Drive version of EWJ2 have been dumped on the web and are available somewhere.

There are also pirated ports of EWJ & EWJ2 for the Famicom / NES available as reproduction carts here:

EWJ: http://www.thenesdump.com/screen%20shot%20pages/Pirates/earthworm%20jim.htm
EWJ2: http://www.thenesdump.com/screen%20shot%20pages/Pirates/earthworm%20jim%202.htm
(I can vouch for this guys work by the way; I have bought several carts from him. Even the label quality is very good)

It's kind of like deleted scenes on DVDs. You watch them and then always end up realizing they were deleted for a reason.

I would say that's not always the case. I mean, consider Daze Before Christmas: it didn't get released because the company went bankrupt. That doesn't mean Daze is a bad game, just that that company had some poor business issues or had previously released poor products. Could Daze be another? Sure, but you'd have to play it to find out.

And then there's the case for games that weren't finished in time to be released on a console, and had to be moved to a different one or were dropped. Doesn't mean there's something wrong with the game, they just took too long or were started too late in the console's lifespan.

Half Life wasn't released on the dreamcast and many people love that.

You're right Ack, I'm just generalizing.

I wasn't aware that the devs of this game went out of business.
