Hills Have Eyes II (1984) or Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007)?

The original of course. Never liked the remakes, but didn't even realize they were remakes till I saw this  .

I think the Hills Have Eyes modern remakes are actually pretty well-done nasty bits of work.

This morning I watched A Serbian Film. It came off as kinda too over the top for its own good. Quality cinematography and soundtrack though.

It's just I'm not a big fan of modern gore stuff like Hostel and the newer The Hills Have Eyes just kind of turn me off :P. I prefer the cheesy effects of the 70s and 80s they just make things way to serious anymore.

Does a sirbean film live up to the hype? I like a little gore but just reading the storyline, this might be to sick for me lol.

It's actually less gory than I expected, but the subject matter itself is I guess supposed to be the unsettling part. For me, it went to the realm of the absurd, and in doing so, lost some of its effectiveness.

The Undead

Such a cool movie poster. Such a terrible movie.

According to this Roger Corman film, the secret to time travel is through hypnosis and Satanism. Basically a psychic discovers that through hypnosis, he can send a soul back in time to previous lives. Unfortunately when he does this to a prostitute, she gets stuck and alters past events, which means her soul will likely be stamped out of existence upon death instead of reincarnating properly. To give her soul a chance, he manages to travel back using her mind to let her know her options: she can either die the next morning on the headman's block and be reincarnated or live a full life there and then cease to exist. And he has to compete with her lover, a pair of opposed witches, and Satan.

At least I think that is what happens. The whole thing seems rather convoluted and ridiculous, and the cast makes a shoddy attempt at Ye Ole English. Also, madness makes you sing popular songs but add in words like "coffin," "corpse," "rats," "filth," etc. The acting is about as great as the script, and the sets...well, let's just say there is a fight sequence that causes a "stone" wall to wobble a fair bit. Satan even introduces the film, Zardoz-style. But there is an imp! He's probably the best thing about this film, which isn't saying much. If you want to watch this, watch the MST3K version, folks.

Hey, Leonard Maltin liked it.

To be fair, Corman did a lot of crazy shit. I'm lucky enough to live in the birthplace of Eastman Kodak, and the George Eastman House has a movie theatre that regularly screens rare (occasionally to the point of "Never before seen" or "Not seen in half a century") stuff... a few years ago at Halloween time I caught a showing of Corman's "The Raven" which was just amazingly over the top.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

Be sure to catch the X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes. It is, IMO, Corman's very best.
