Thats what I'm scared of when looking for a house  . Luckily, there are a couple fixer uppers, needing little more than painting, under 80k and around 2,000 sq ft. It helps that my dad is a Renaissance man when it comes to building and fixing anything.

I can't believe it was snowing hard yesterday and now today it's bright and sunny. It's only ~50 degrees right now but there's no wind and it feels really warm in the sun. The only snow left on the ground are piles from shoveling.

:) Thanks to a very nasty norovirus infection, I am over halfway to my weight loss goal for the year! (Seriously...I lost 7 pounds this weekend.)

Luckily for myself, if I ever get to be a homeowner, I can do a lot of work myself. I wouldn't even mind a fixer upper (assuming I had the money to put into it) because in most cases I actually like doing the work.

But congrats on owning a home, aaron. That is something that is increasingly becoming more and more of a scary thought for me. They say that it's a buyer's market right now, but property taxes on LI make my stomach turn. I'd hate to leave the place I was born and raised, and that's probably the thought that actually scares me the most about it all.

It was a buyer's market a few years ago. (I very much wish I had bought my house in 2009 rather than in 2006...) As the economy continues to improve, however, it is becoming more and more of a seller's market.

In any event, owning a house is a lot of work. My wife and I have a 1929 bungalow that was in good shape when we purchased it. Nonetheless, we spend a lot of our weekends working on it. (Having children also delayed some of our home improvement plans significantly.)

If this horrible, horrible infection helps me to recalibrate my portion size, it might have been worth it...
