Watched this the other night and found it a little slow but enjoyable. Basically you get to watch a self centered and semi obnoxious radio host loose his shit as the pressure of dealing with haters and the possibility of his show going national gets the better of him. It's got a pretty interesting message as the movie calls out people for being obsessed with things they supposedly hate.

There is bad and then there is Dark Waters. Effects are horrible, writing is horrible, acting is horrible, and everything in general just is mind blowingly bad. It isn't even the good kind of bad that you can laugh at either because you can tell they were really being serious the entire film. I mean it says something when your opening sequence is an underwater scene without any actual water  . Seriously it's two guys pretending to slowly move around as a machine slowly shoots particles in the air to simulate the sea floor and then the scifi channel quality cgi sharks swoop in  .

GET LOW

I encourage people to see this film. It's extremely well written, the characters are memorable and easy to relate to, and it's unusual. It also stars Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, and Bill Murray, so that also needs to be mentioned.

From the make of the automobiles I would say the film is set in either the late 1920's or mid 1930's, but the subject matter could be presented at any time and still work. Duvall's character is unique as he is both a hermit, yet also very well known in his small town. How can one be both? The answer is constant inflating rumors about his dubious life.

Murray plays the owner of a one-stop shop funeral home who I can only describe as a Mr. Burns with a heart. As far as Spacek, I'll leave that to the movie to explain.

Duvall's character "Felix" intends to plan his own funeral and hold it while he is still alive and the entire town is invited. He uses every media outlet available at the time to announce his funeral which draws blank stares and intrigue.

Without giving too much away, the funeral isn't about redemption, rather Felix making amends with himself. Not about trying to have a clean slate with his fellow man, but trying to remove his own agony.

Is that agony physical or mental? Go see the movie to find out.

GET LOW is a bit slow paced, but not once did I check my watch. Although when I read "Bill Murray plays and Undertaker for a man who wants to hold a funeral while still alive" I thought "comedy", GET LOW is relatively somber.

Didn't just watch it. This is a great pre-order price on this in my opinion though. Totally worth it, just in case anyone wasn't watching the price.

Noise, since we were talking about this when you told me your Innkeepers story, if you aren't looking to purchase right away and you do Ultraviolet just PM me and I'll hook you up with the code if you're interested.

MIELE aka HONEY

Not the Jessica Alba one.

No wonder why this has a 100% rating on rotten tomatoes.

It's a story about a cute and young Italian girl who applies the drugs for assisted suicide. If you're not sold on that already, I will add that there are boobs. Gorgeous, thought provoking, heart wrenching, and at times manic.

Streaming on Netflix. If you like films that focus in life and the loss of it, it's a must see.

The Long Goodbye (1973)

The Long Goodbye has been described as "a study of a moral and decent man cast adrift in a selfish, self-obsessed society where lives can be thrown away without a backward glance ... and any notions of friendship and loyalty are meaningless." (Wikipedia)

Here's a noir detective film Ack recommended for me to watch, so I gave it a shot. Overall I enjoyed this film, despite it having a fairly weak lead. The central private investigator in the film comes across as a bumbling goof relying on luck, rather than the kind of snide and calculative PI which I prefer. The overall plot was fairly good, but there were no strong twists or surprises, rather one long twist that slowly unfolds through the two hour long film. You'll likely guess the end before it happens, honestly. However, I loved the main "bad guy" in this movie, a crazy "hood" who was completely insane and unpredictable. At one point he was threatening the lead PI, and to make a point he smashed a bottle across his own girlfriend's face just to intimidate said PI. Also, there was a surprise (and uncredited) cameo with a very young Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a henchman. Another character in the film was obviously a parody of Ernest Hemingway, and his drunken ramblings were always entertaining.

Ultimately The Long Goodbye was a good movie for sure, but it didn't live up to its ultimate potential. (Considering Chinatown came out around the same time, and that film is utterly magnificent in contrast.) But I'd certainly recommend The Long Goodbye to fans of Chandler's works obviously. It's a 7/10 for me though.

Jurassic World was not bad, a decent summer flick, but parts of it would make great MST3K material.

IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE LUDICROUS.

I can't believe this has to be explained over and over again. People say "Who could wear high heels like that?"...Because the movie zooms in on them to remind you how silly it is! It's not good MST3K material because it doesn't take itself seriously. It's intention was to not be taken seriously and excelled at every level.

The script and cast was changed well over a dozen times because of "too serious". JURASSIC WORLD totally accomplished what it set out to accomplish, and much more. Not many movies do that.
