I don't know you're right.

I like the idea of the group of us each getting a chance to pick one and encourage the rest of the group to get into it. I think it's great fun to get the big vote/discussion thing going on for TR. But I find SOTM smaller, and looser which is also fun. I like the idea of not spending a month arguing about titles but rather being given a syllabus -- whether it's one made by 11 of us, or one just made by bruno. I just think doing it 11 ppl rather than bruno alone will result in more variety. For instance you'll pick Crimson most likely (so a PC doujin) while I have my eye on Shiki2 ...I don't see these interesting picks winning out vote-wise if we just do a big dev vote like last time. And to be honest, I just think that whole voting process was overly laborious.

We banged out a good list and I'm sure once a new thread is established we can do it again.

Dave, what if the potential people picked 3 games from their favorite dev, and folks voted on them?

I do agree that people not wieghing in may make it less fun for them then those that are choosing, but at the same time I like the idea of people here bringing forth what they would like us to try.

It worked well enough last year that I am not opposed to doing it the same way, I just like how things like the STGT went. Sure, there was a lot of bitching, but that happened with a few games that we all voted on too

That was unintentional, I actually went back to look at my post to see if I really did forget to list your name. Obviously, I had you in mind, dunno how I forgot to list you.

Anyway, if nothing else I hope this little debate doesn't deter people from participating next year. Personally, I'm fine with either idea and think they both have merits. I think it would be cool to see what games the active members here think we should devote a month to. I also enjoyed the voting process we used last time, and although it was a bit of a chore, it allowed several choices and ensured everyone got a say in one way or another, and also encouraged us to do some research on the candidates.

Not everyone is going to like every game picked. Not everyone is going to want to participate every month. Some months will be quiet and others will be active. I'll likely be really lazy and barely update the OP. This will be true regardless of what method is chosen.

That might be a happy medium, I suppose. I'm not trying to be difficult, but I don't think that certain members imposing a list of games to play on anyone/everyone else who wants to join in is a good model for expanding participation in the club. There should be some public discussion/debate/voting somewhere along the line.

NMK

:)

I wouldn't mind seeing Raizing, Toaplan, or Seibu again. Wait, we didn't do Seibu last year. madness

How did we vote on devs last year?

I think devs could be repeated, just not games. It would be nice to see a few new devs though, and to not see Treasure back on the list

Look at the names of people who had a chance to vote last year.

It is the 11 plus a couple other moderate actives...and a bunch of other folks who chimed in...and then didn't play.

I'd much rather have a large voice knowing i'll be playing every month - versus other folks voting and then never posting scores or talking strategy.

I absolutely want others to join in - I also absolutely think those of us who were very active should have a large say in the games we play.

This thread should stay as the go to thread, no need for a new one. Lots of great stuff in here, would hate to see it go into archives.
