I've recently started replaying Soul Blazer again. Love this game.
Currently at level 5 (the laboratory stage) and just enjoying the aspect of rebuilding stuff by killing monsters.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Still slowly grinding through Breath of Fire, gotten into the room with the spinning tiles. The game means well, but...

Sick game. I'm probably going to play through that "trilogy" again when I have the chance.

Ah yes. I remember that room clearly. Somewhat annoying.
Make sure you play part II eventually. It's the better game but is also completely insane.

Well man if you can't get enough Popful there's always these entries to consider:
As for Working Designs I had a love hate thing for them. Yeah I loved that they brought games over in English. But I hated that they mucked with the difficulty of a lot of their releases, and even worse inserted irrelevant expiration date sensitive fourth wall breaking pop culture references into their translations. But Victor Ireland is still a hero in my book all the same.
Working Designs also had a habit of delaying their games quite a bit too.
But if it weren't for WD, would we have the awesomeness of John Truitt?
Re: RPG Progress Report
Finally finished Legend of Dragoon. Legend Casque is silly good. The final boss was disappointingly easy even ignoring Legend Casque; Rose was doing 1k damage a turn and was getting 2 turns for every one the boss got (same with Dart and Meru, but they were doing a combined 800 damage).
The power curve on the Dragoon abilities was kind of disappointing, in retrospect. Early game you can't stay Dragoon long enough to benefit from the defenses, and lategame your additions do so much damage compared to the Dragoon attack/magic that the only reason to go Dragoon form is for multi-target damage. There's this period of time on disc 3 where the Dragoon damage is about the same or higher (but not by much) than your regular damage and lasts long enough that you benefit from the increased defenses. Except in that one boss battle where the boss says "Fuck you Dragoon powers".

Wrapped up Popful Mail last night. Final boss was a bit of an ass.

Final Fantasy X
Got the airship. Pretty sure I'm on the final sprint now.
So far from being able to fight the superbosses it's not even funny.

Yes and no. I quit BoFII about halfway through because the encounter rate was even worse than the first one. It has a lot of improvements, but it feels like even more of a grind. And I hate the split XP system in those games, because it makes leveling up a pain in the ass.

Re: RPG Progress Report
I didn't notice the high encounter rate, but I don't think I've ever played both games in close proximity to each other.
I appreciated the added complexity to Breath of Fire II. But the first game is one of those great "simplistic" classic JRPGs.
I like both games. And parts III and IV. V was awful.

That tower that you must climb right around the time you get Jean had a random encounter rate of roughly every four steps. I would crawl my way to the stairs and pray I made it. I got so tired of it, I set the game aside.
BoFIII is my favorite in the series, though I've never played IV. But III is wonderful in my opinion and does a great job mixing 2D and 3D visuals in a way that I found enjoyable.
