Maybe, or else Gamestop's internal organization/communication is really just that bad. It's a shame too, because the one that did have PS2 games had stuff like Persona 4 and Nocturne. But they wanted $30 for each. F that.BurningDoom wrote:Maybe you're local store's employees just are lazy and haven't marked them down yet. Last time I went to Gamestop I walked out with 5 PS2 games for $1, and not one of them was a sports game (okay, a couple were racing games, though).BoneSnapDeez wrote:Yeah I'm having the same problem, ice.
I'm not running into these amazing GameStop deals everyone here is talking about.
It's mostly sports and cheapo titles left on the shelves. I guess some games are technically "marked down" but why pay $3.99 for a scratched up covered-in-stickers copy of NFL 2K5 when I can get an immaculate one from the web or my local retro store for the same price.

Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
I'm thinking this holiday season is the last for the PS2
They want to get the last good games for regular used price this holiday season.
They may be older games but they are still being purchased. They're probably gonna have a couple buy 2 get one free deals before new years and that will help them clear out stock.
They know that the fans will still pay for those $25 RPGs.
Before the Gamecube games went out, many were still quite high, only when you got the b2g1 free deal is when it was worth it.
The ps2 may be a lame duck for Gamestop but that wont stop them from charging whatever they want for whats left of their ps2 games.

Yeah, Gamestop does suck it as far as trade-ins (which I don't do anyway) and I HATE that they destroy most of the boxes/cover inserts with stickers (WHY???); however, I still browse the shelves weekly and can find some pretty decent stuff for under $10. PS2, Gamecube, and PSP games are being phased out and if you look hard enough you can find some good stuff for cheap and not all of it is in bad condition. I've been able pick up some decent stuff lately like a new/sealed copy of Dark Void (Xbox 360) for $6.00 and a bunch of old PS2 games I missed out on over the years (usually for less than $5.00). I don't buy disks unless they're complete in the box and in good condition. Some stores are better than others but there's good stuff out there if you put in the time to look.
I should also mention, I'm not pleased when they sell a game as "NEW" but the box is opened on the shelf with the game in a sleeve behind the counter. =\
That's what most would call an opened item and not worthy of a brand-new price tag.

I feel it is obscene how the company brazenly discards the cases and manuals to so many games. Does any other media retailer do such a thing? Are there DVD retail stores that throw out the cases and liner notes to their DVDs? Imagine a music retailer tossing all jewel cases and inserts to their audio CDs.

Gamestop tries really hard to "condense" their inventory so they can fit it all in those tiny ass stores that they insist on setting up shop in. Seriously, we have six stores in the area and they're all barely big enough for ten people to fit in. It just shows how cheap they are.Zing wrote:I feel it is obscene how the company brazenly discards the cases and manuals to so many games. Does any other media retailer do such a thing? Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Just went into my local gamestop in [deleted], which used to be my favorite gamestore ever, and it just now reminds me of how much I dislike shopping there. I browsed the psp section, and found they actually had a ton of good psp games. I ended up finding steambot chronicles for $3, and star ocean: 2nd evolution for $15, and I thought that was a pretty good deal. I was feeling good about my purchase. Then the clerk opened his mouth.
"You buying these?"
"Yep."
"You have a gamestop card?"
"No."
"Have you heard about it?"
"Twice every visit."
"You want one? It saves you ten percent on used games."
"Nope, only buy a used game here every 4 months or so."(the implication being that since you have to spend $15 for the card, I would need to buy $150 in used games to make it worthwhile, which wouldn't happen)
"Well, it's good for a year so you'd get to use it 3 times. Plus it comes with a subscription to game informer."
"NO."
After that I paid and left, thinking that I liked this place a lot better when it was a funcoland. I felt bad that I had to be openly abrasive to the guy like that when he's just doing his job, but any company that treats employees and customers like that is one I want no part of. Forgot them and their up-selling.

Every time I see this thread, I wonder what people are complaining about this time that has already been mentioned at least thrice over earlier in the thread.noiseredux wrote:They throw out cases/manuals?

I went to a grocery store today and they asked me if I found everything I wanted and asked if I had their rewards card. Quit hasslin me bro.
I then went to a Sheetz gas station where they asked me if I found everything I needed and then asked if I had their rewards card. Off my nuts Sheetz.
It's the way of retail people, and it has been that way since the invention of the credit card. Quit'yer'bitchin.

I fail to see how that is a valid comparison, as both of those cards are free, and thus actually useful to the consumer.Luke wrote:I went to a grocery store today and they asked me if I found everything I wanted and asked if I had their rewards card. Quit hasslin me bro.
