That's the thing though. Over the years, Batman has been both. Sometimes it's silly, campy, and vaguely homosexual. Other times it's dark, brooding, and violent. Neither protrayal of Batman is right or wrong. That's simply the product of the myriad writers, artists, directors, and actors who have had their hands on the franchise over the past seventy-six years.

I think the variety of changes and such also give Batman some advantages in the storytelling department. I don't know another character to compare it to, but with the Batman mythos, you can pretty much tell any story as long as you stay within a certain set of rules-it can be campy or serious, Batman can be a smart, calculating man or a deranged man on the edge of insanity, etc. Look at Miller and his Dark Knight stories- we get a completely different view of Batman than many others at the time, but it is also completely correct because it fits within the mythos.

Of course, you could probably drop this idea on a lot of comic characters, but I feel like Bat Man is one of those it fits best, if he isn't the best example.

If that poster doesn't make you curious I don't know what will, it's on netflix and it's awesome(warning it is in french so be prepared for subtitles). Don't know how I found it(wait yes I do, I was looking up good movies on netflix and this popped up). Dare I say the poster didn't set my hopes high enough...man all four 90's Batman movies and this gem best day off ever! It's got disguises, mummies, witty comebacks and a pterodactyl, what more do you need for a good movie? (the french accents help get a lot of the comedy across and make it funnier if I do say so myself...

And Justice For All (1979)

Holy shit this was a great movie. Reminded me why I continuously believe the greatest film era was the 70s. This film is a hybrid of a comedy and serious introspection on the fallibility of the US legal system. Al Pacino of course is brilliant in it, but every actor pulled their weight honestly. The cinematography and sets were magnificent, and I loved the jazz funk soundtrack. I enjoyed practically every minute of this film, a brilliant plot and the director executed it perfectly. Fantastic editing with no scene lingering too long. A great film showing us once more that absolute power corrupts absolutely. I recommend the hell out of this movie to anyone.

Batman Forever stinks because it tries to force camp humor. You can not tell your audience "Hey! You! We're being silly!". Camp humor has to be detected (which fits in this case) and not shoved to work. When a movie tries to be bad it isn't funny. But when a movie tries to be good and is bad, it is hilarious.

Forever is like a three year old shouting "Look at me! Look at me!". It's not funny, it is obnoxious. Kind of like Jim Carrey...Oh wait, he's in the movie.

Other than that, wow. You guys have been watching some killer movies as of late. Some are quite masterpieces. Please keep your reviews and thoughts coming.

Kung Fury was simply brilliant, I really hope they release on GoG in the future.

Its 80stastic, gets straight to the point, and is stupidly hyperviolent. It is everything I wanted out of it, and I hope they make a sequel.

Without Warning

An alien hunter stalks human prey with disc-like objects and a desire to steal the bodies away for its dark purposes. Seven years before he played the Predator and hunted Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Peter Hall starred as another stealthy extraterrestrial being that yearned for human victims. Instead of trophies, it feeds on the bodies, and instead of metal blades, spears, and shoulder cannons, this one uses parasitic creatures like a Frisbee to latch onto its quarry and bring it down. And this one doesn't just do it for the thrill of taking down a worthy opponent, as it doesn't care whether you have a fighting chance.

The plot is simple: four teenagers visit a lake for some relaxation. Unfortunately an alien has declared it open season on human prey, and it's also chosen this exact lake as its campground. The townsfolk nearby might know something, but unfortunately the few that do don't quite have all of their mental faculties, including a crotchety old hunter and a mentally ill army veteran who thinks aliens are invading to take over the Earth.

I was surprised while watching Without Warning. It hits a lot of the traditional horror tropes of the 1980s(teenagers having sex get killed, small rural towns are full of crazies, the gas station is always maintained by a creep, the final girl). In fact, it's kind of like a non-slasher slasher film in this regard. But it is an effective horror movie that understands how to hide its creature for most of the movie. You see the bodies, the weapons, and the shadow, but you don't actually see it until literally 15 minutes from the end of the film(I think it may be a couple of seconds off, but it's quite close). It never speaks beyond a growl, though the parasitic discs like to chitter in a way that is as gross as they are. And while there are some characters you think will survive...well, you'd be wrong.

As for the actors, there is actually some talent in here: Jack Palance, Martin Landau, Neville Brand, David Caruso, Ralph Meeker, even Cameron Mitchell from Space Mutiny! I love Space Mutiny. But most importantly, Kevin Peter Hall is here, AKA the Predator, the mutant bear from Prophecy, the Gorvil from Mazes and Monsters that Tom Hanks kills when he goes crazy, Harry from Harry and the Hendersons, so on and so forth. What's not to love?

For the most part, the film is solid; at least I think so. There are tense moments, the soundtrack and audio effects add to the dreariness, shadows are well used, and the pacing and editing are reasonably well done, though there is one scene near the middle of the film where two characters climb into a sheriff's patrol car that feels forced and sloppy in comparison to the rest. But there is nothing in the film that feels unnecessary or overly long. Unrealistic perhaps, especially regarding the Sarge and how he gets away from the bar so easily, but Martin Landau does such an entertaining job as the character, I'm willing to overlook it. To all of my horror fan friends, I suggest checking this one out.

Mad Max was actually my first 3D movie in an actual theater (I've seen a couple movies in 3D on my TV) and I loved it.
