The truth is that there's an abundance of of Famicoms in the world. Would you buy a yellowed one and retr0bright it when you could just buy a non-yellowed Famicom? Making retr0bright isn't exactly cheap. What will happen to all these unsold Famicoms? Yellow ones aren't getting any whiter. They eventually make their way into the garbage.

They're not hard to mod at all, you don't have to remove anything from the board (if you don't want to). You just have to tap a pin on the PPU for composite out, tap 5v and ground, and build a small circuit. For audio, you just have to tap a single pin and add a cap or something IIRC. But you don't have to remove anything.

The bigger problem with the Famicom composite mod is jailbars. Apparently it's because the Famicom board is just an awful design. That being said, taking a yellowed or cracked Famicom and harvesting the parts to make ANOTHER FAMICOM that doesn't suck gets a pass in my book. This is coming from a guy that frequently talks about preservation, and loses sleep over the thought of retro games and consoles making their way into a landfill. But in the end, there's isn't one less Famicom in the world. There's the same amount, only some are far better than others now.

I'm not totally agreeing with the design and price, but my thoughts have already been posted in this thread and others.

I was mistaken then. I was under the impression you had to desolder a couple resistors to make it work.

Edit:
I found where I got that idea from:

so...this thread. Did we ban that one d00d that was so obnoxious?

Anyway, I still like to drool over this thing. I have no intent to get one (unless christoph wants to send me a review unit :D ), but the board sure is looking purty:

You know the Analogue NT reminds me of the story of Theseus's ship, if you don't know the old philosophical debate. Theseus had a ship and over the years every plank of wood was replaced and the question was the ship still the original ship and if not at what point did it become not the original ship. And that is my question about the Analogue NT, it's not like their CMVS which is an actual MV1C motherboard in a wooden enclosure. The NT is a brand new motherboard with a couple chips harvested from old famicoms, does that make it a glorified clone system or is it still an NES?

The same thing happens to your body, but since the brain stays the same, it is still you.
