Still sick, I but knocked another one off my list!

Children of the Corn is mixed for me. The gore fans will be disappointed, as nearly all of the killings take place off screen. The special effects are hokey, the acting from the child actors has a wide range between good and terrible, and the most disturbing scene in the film occurs within the first five minutes of the film(it involves a hand, a meat slicer, and a blood splatter). There is one good car hit, but beyond that, the film relies mainly on its disquieting premise and its lifeless landscape.

Remind me to never go to Nebraska. It's all cornfields and cults out there.

It's been a few days since I made my thread that got merged, so I think I'll ask my question again. Anyone have any scary games to recommend? I'll link to the original post here. Basically, I requested games that set out to scare. I'm not really looking for games like Splatterhouse 2010 and F.E.A.R. that are more actiony with horror elements.

I forgot to reply to this. I'll look into Outlast. Too bad there doesn't seem to be a demo for it. I've given some thought to Condemned recently. Thankfully, there is a demo for it.

You should check some mods for half life called Afraid of monsters and Cry of Fear (this one is on steam and is free i think it is a stand alone version too) the later im too much of a coward to try it... but maybe i'll try it in time

I didn't try Amnesia but i heard really good things about it, and i just downloaded the demo of Siren: Blood curse on the PS3 (first 2 games are on PS2) and for the 15 minute it lasted it was good.

I watched "The Island of Lost Souls" (1932) and "The Screaming Skull" (1958) both last night as part of a series of planned horror film watching with some friends this month. The first was pretty well done and a nice take on Moreau, the second was hilariously bad from start to finish and elicited many, many laughs. Ack, I know you said you liked the film once the supernatural stuff started happening, but I found that it just ratcheted up the ridiculousness that is present throughout. The key death scene alone was just gut-busting, with the actor "fighting" the antagonistic skull basically by trying not to drop the prop into the water. Fun times.

@Ack, I still love Children of the Corn. Watched it a couple months ago again actually. I always say it feels like two totally different movies depending if you watch it when you're younger and then when you're an adult. It's funny. But yeah that scene in the beginning is disturbing as heck.




Speaking of disturbing, I don't think Pumpkinhead gets the credit it deserves sometimes. Watched it last night, and it's one I've seen many times going back to when I was a kid. It's definitely unique.

I'm also a fan of the second one, Blood Wings. Although that one is a little more "fun" whereas the first is definitely played straight.

The third one was bad enough that I didn't bother to see the third. Fucking Sci-Fi Channel.

Memories.

I remember watching this with my family at a suite in Ohio that let you borrow any movie they had in stock. My Mom and Dad were big King fans at the time and were excited to see it. But my Sister and I pretty much ruined the movie for them as we kept expressing how lame it was. That and we couldn't stop doing the COTC chant:

"Shawpee Shaw...Aww-AH!"

During the drive back to Chicago, anytime we passed a corn field we'd all chime in, "Shawpee Shaw...Aww-AH!"

I couldn't sleep the other night so I read Children of the Corn. The story is much better than the movie. King himself thought the film was pretty crappy.

But I have read nearly every Stephen King book and have seen most of the movie adaptations. Some of the movies are good, some are awful. One of my recent favorites was 1408, that was a creepy ass film.

I once had a conversation with the man himself about the movies too. He apparently really digs The Shawshank Redemption, along with every cable network.
