Yep, just read that today, they have basically pushed me over the fence on canceling my preorder. I am pretty bummed about it though, was really looking forward to that one.

The difference being one just needed more time to be polished (one can only imagine how buggy a game like Watch Dogs can turn out) and the other was delayed so they can save money on the marketing budget

Yeah, it's the one game I have been looking forward to the most this year and also one of the main games I wanted to play on PS4 (I know it's multiformat, but it still looked incredible regardless). There aren't actually any other PS4 games this year I'm that bothered about. It's a real shame. Plus I still feel bitter about pre-ordered a Wii U, with Rayman Legends being a big reason.
@ZeroAX I understand. I just wish they hadn't decided literally a month before release and only a week after I received an email offering me the chance to swap my PS4 preorder for the new official Watch Dogs bundle. Seriously, they only just looked at the game now and thought "shit guys, we need another 6 months to polish this up"?

Maybe they were afraid of another Assasin's Creed 1 fiasco
Yeah but to be honest launch games are always weak, because developers don't know the hardware well enough and have to rush to get the game out by release (Unless of course you are Nintendo and you delay your console so the launch title you are developing is ready (aka Super Mario 64).). So that probably had something to do with it.
But I will agree that canceling your preorder is probably a good idea. Launch hardware can be faulty, and well....why spend the money on one now when you don't have anything you really want to play?

If you look at the Rayman Legends deal, that game was completed and it was all about money, they wanted a simultaneous launch. They got some pushback from that reasoning and this time out they made it about polish, when in reality they probably realized that launching this in the same timeframe as AC4 was a mistake.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

This reminds me of the time Ubisoft thought release Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia (Sands of Time) and Beyond Good and Evil, all in 1-2 months was a good idea (and the holiday season to boot).
Hell, I think Prince of Persia actually undersold, and it wasn't till the sequels that the game got the chance it deserved to sell a lot.

I love how cynical the internet is. On all the news sites I see posts like this:
Anyone else think he meant to say, "we don't want to release it alongside AC4 and hinder the sales of each title, so we'll delay our new ip until next year?"

Knowing Ubi, it's probably not that Watch Dogs needed more time, it's that they didn't want to compete with all the other holiday releases.

Because it's true. It didn't make sense to compete with another of your flagship titles. It's not cynicism, it's the voice of reason.
