Wait, Wario and Game and Watch aren't confirmed characters? Shocked.

There's some leaked gameplay up if anyone is interested/doesn't mind spoilers. A Youtube user called Izat True has a few brief and blurry vids up with some previously unseen characters.

Game and Watch was confirmed in the same video that introduced Pacman.

I also looked up Izat True and the videos seem to be gone. May I ask who the previously unseen characters were?

You may. They were

Baby Bowser, Gannondorf and Shulk of Xenoblade fame were shown in 3DS footage. Also shown on the character select screen was Dark Pit, Dr Mario, Ness and most bizarrely of all the Dog from Duck Hunt. Steve, I think his name is. And Wario, R.O.B and Falco are confirmed by it as well, if they already weren't.

Thanks! Interesting choices, but I have to say I'm not really happy about some of them...

ROB and Dr. Mario didn't really need to come back (though I wouldn't be surprised if the Doc is just a costume, did he have a separate icon from Mario?), and Dark Pit and the Dog just seem like a waste. Ah well...

I am pleased that Falco's back. :)

ROB at least offers a unique play style. I'm sad by rumours that Ice Climbers are gone as they were one of the more unique playstyles.

Dr.Mario and Dark Pit probably have a roster spot for the same reason Lucina does. Sakurai actually explained it - lots of characters have alternate skins (Little Macs wireframe, rumours that Bowser Jr has alts for all the Koopa Kids, but where these 'skins' played even slightly differently, they got a roster spot instead. For example, Luncina hits equally hard no matter where her sword connects, whilst Marth does more knockback if he hits with the tip of the sword. Because this is different, even though they are otherwise identical, Lucina gets her own roster spot. I imagine Dark Pit and Dr. Mario are very mildly different skins of Pit and Mario and thus got a spot via the same method.

The Dog probably plays quite uniquely if it's true, so I'm waiting to see.

There was another rumour (text only) that stated the existence of Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, Shulk and Bowser JR, but also mentioned Dixie Kong, Ridley, Choirmen and Mewtwo. Will be interesting to see if this is true.

If you think the Dog was a waste then you clearly did not grow up with the NES. I know I will be creating bot matches of me vs. the Dog and wail on him over and over again as revenge for my childhood.

Of course I did Popo, it was my first system.

I dunno, its a context thing. I'd rather have what I could never have as a child, which is the ability to shoot the bastard in his own game. Of course, there are hacks that allow you to do that.

In Smash, I'd rather have more characters that I actually want to play as, vs. more characters I dislike and thus beat up on.

Anyway, I imagine he'll be fine as a fighter, there are just other characters I would have preferred.

It'd be an ultimate troll/taunt if you knocked someone off the screen with Duck and Dog, and Dog picks them up like he did in Duck Hunt.
