I cannot play a shmup with a pad. I mean, I can, but shmups and sticks go hand and hand for me. Which is weird, since I never played shmups at the arcades (nor ever played shmups since getting into them a few years ago).foxhound1022 wrote:Bah, I hate sticks; the NGCD pad is awesome IMO.
As far as shmups, I made it to Stage 6 on Zed Blade using a pad.

I didn't really get into shmups until I started posting on here. I've tried time and time again to use sticks for shmups and fighters, but with little success. I just do so much better w/ a pad. Plus, tapping buttons on a stick or at a cab kills my wrist after awhile.o.pwuaioc wrote:I cannot play a shmup with a pad. I mean, I can, but shmups and sticks go hand and hand for me. It must be if it was relaunched for the PS2 in Japano.pwuaioc wrote:Is the pad good for anything? I'm thinking that the too few platformers on the system won't really make it worth it to buy one, that my sticks should be fine.Hobie-wan wrote:The pad is great. Just not as much for shmups with repeated button tapping.o.pwuaioc wrote:What's wrong with the controller?

USB versions were also made for PS3/PC I believe.

and the PS3.
For me, it's the SAT 2 pad (slim) and then the NG pad. The d-pad takes getting used to, but once you do, so slick and nice big buttons.

Amusingly I've played Space Megaforce (SNES) with a pad so much I'm better at that one game with a pad.o.pwuaioc wrote:I cannot play a shmup with a pad. The NG pad is great, I'd just prefer a stick for the shmups.

Today's wares:
Last Soldier is the Korean Version of Last Blade.
My kids really enjoy the magical drop series. I debate going for the MVS library from a sheer physical size and because I don't like owning things I won't ever play (like the mahjong games and the uber-repetitive soccer titles). I'll see where i'm at once I acquire the last few pricey carts and if i'm super close, I may just go for it. I'm still a ways away, I forget the official count, but I think its in the low 200's.

I didn't know Double Dragon was released on the Neo-Geo. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, though, since it was released on every other console in existence.

Yep. It's a decent 2-D fighter.BurningDoom wrote:I didn't know Double Dragon was released on the Neo-Geo. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, though, since it was released on every other console in existence.

Yeah, I ordered it a week ago and then played it last night on a multi-cart to see how that would compare to this one when it arrived. As I posted about last night - I was surprised to find it's a pretty decent 2D fighter, not a beat 'em up.
