My updates have never taken that long. You can also download an update on a usb drive and install it much faster. I also dont sit and stare at the screen while it updates, so my time isnt really wasted.
Does your Wii have HBOGo?
Sure you dont have to like the PS3, your choice of course. Just seems a lot of impatience and you are very easily frustrated.

Slow internet connection can make a pain to download a system update or a game update.
I know that pain 500 mg for you maybe not much but it takes 3 or more hours with my internet so i usually put that to download and go to play something else or chat on facebook or check the forums. If you go to the settings on the PS3 you could turn the wifi off and play any game without and updates poppin up every time.
I would also been a bit fustrated in your case but not the point to sell the system 3 days later. Videogames can be fun and be frustating, dealing with software and hardware problems once in a while is part of the hobby

these "problems" you've described exist for every console for the past 8 years now...what did you think would happen? Not sure why an update to the OS would take hours though...even if Sony is a bit slower than the Wii or 360 for updates, I've never had a firmware update take hours.
No manual came with my used PS3, but I never needed a manual to operate a video game console before, so I did not anticipate a problem.
I'm a retro-gamer Dsh. What I thought would happen was I'd hook up my new console and start playing games ten minutes later. That's how every console I've ever owned from NES to Wii has ever worked. I should not need to wait hours to play.
User experience has a lot to do with the emotions a customer experiences while using a product. A video game console should fill me with joy. If I feel only frustration, that's a poor user experience.

As long as you don't go online, and Xbox360 should service you and your needs fine. Just make a profile, pop a disc in and play. Though I'm sure that's the same for the PS3 as well.
Funny you should say the Wii was less frustrating as I found setting up the wi-fi to be the biggest pain in the arse. Different strokes.

The days of a console being a simple piece of hardware to run a game are over. Consoles are now underpowered computers, and come with all the associated headaches.

Retro consoles also cant cant get online (most) or play netflix etc. They also cant update firmware or patch software to fix any bugs or offer expanded services (sure not all updates do this). With more functionality comes complexity.
You never have to update your Wii? I recall having to do some updates...

You said it Popo.
@jmustang.
No, I have never needed to update my wii. I have only had my wii for one year, and no more updates have come out for the wii.
Now that I have sufficiently driven this thread off topic, let's go back to talking about Duck Tales. Remembering that PS3 is depressing.
Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg. Race cars lasers air-o-planes. It's a Duck blur. Might solve a mystery or re-write history.
Ducktales!

Sorry man but I just cannot see giving up on it. And if it refused to play any game it may be that you bought a bad system.
I have four of these systems and NEVER have I had so much issue with one or all of them combined. Games update, systems update, part of life if you want to experience the best of what is offered. I have never had a game not boot on me and in 6+ years have had about a half dozen freezes. Heck my NES gives me more headaches than this.
Bump and NES, freeze time, knock over a PS3, keeps right on kicking!!!
Hate to see you give up so easily, you are gonna miss out in a big way. Enjoy the Wii though, it has plenty of goodies on it (regardless of what I used to think).

Most of those issues are things that a user starting with a new or reformatted system would not run into. The system would start with outputting a generic signal instead of one customized for the display/sound system it was hooked up to before. It'd require you to make a user account on initial startup.
