I get what's supposed to be "hypocritical" about it, but I just am not seeing it. Do you seriously think the president shouldn't have guards because he favors gun restrictions?
Nope, but if he has guns to protect his family, then we should have them to protect ours.
Really? Really? I had no idea you were as important as the president! You were as targeted, as threatened, as the president! By god, all this time I figured you were just some nobody on the internet. Now that I know you are actually threatened with assassination, indeed you should get full security. But since I know that I myself am not threatened in such a way, I'll be fine in not requesting any for me.
They are protecting a symbol and seat of power of our government yes. I never said he *shouldn't* get protection.

But in my own personal eyes, my family and I are more important to me than the president. Obviously, not to the rest of the nation. There are home invasions all the time throughout Houston. Every day there is news of people who have had their home invaded and killed.

But thanks for taking stuff out of context again.

I am fully aware of what it means.

Do you know what 'how to be a pompous ass means?'

Jmustang, I'm disappointed in you.

His argument didn't have a leg to stand on and then you hand him a crutch.

OK, enough with the snipping back and forth. Be civil or STFU. This applies to people I agree with as well as those I don't.

I'm sorry, but saying that we should have more guns because the president needs guns to protect him from guns is about the stupidest thing I've heard.

Calling it how I saw it.

It was fine and civil discussion of points until he had to be a smart ass...

You jumped to conclusions and put words in my mouth.

I said these officials, and amongst other celebrities who hire armed guards, do so and then are campaigning for restrictions on weapons. It is hypocritical. You focused on the president and then tried to spin it that I am more important than the president blah blah... I never even said president, you did.

They obviously feel the need or are confident that guns can protect them, but then want to not allow the average citizen the same measure of protection.

Not to, again, try to put a damper on these things, but maybe the two of you simply need to extract yourselves from the conversation. I actually have some thoughts on your points, jmustang, but now I can't voice them because I don't want to perpetuate this part of the exchange.

See? This kind of back and forth actually silences meaningful discussion.

I welcome discussion from you. But when one responds dripping with sarcasm and condescension, it runs arguments into the ground.

I have no problem if others counter my points, then you have meaningful discussion.
