Natalie Portman and I are the same age, so I don't find it creepy that I was infatuated with her when THE PROFESSIONAL was released. Same with Ricci when I first saw THE ADDAMS FAMILY. Crushed pretty hard on those two.
We have a Peter Parker:

I can dig it. Toby was pretty great, Garfield was pretty awful, but Asa looks the part. He isn't super goofy looking, certainly doesn't look like a member of a boy band, but he looks like he can handle the role well.
FURY ROAD is going to pick up crazy speed at the box office and become a smash hit. Word of mouth will fuel this movie like mad.
PITCH PERFECT 2 has the opposite issue. People will go see it because of the first movie, but I predict a substantial drop off in a few weeks. The characters have absolutely nothing new to give, and it's an old dog doing the same old tricks.
What was the last movie you've seen?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
My first movie in a theater in quite a while was Mad Max: Fury Road.
While the actions sequences were definitely pretty awesome, they did sometimes run just a hair long with just a tag overmuch spectacle. The best parts of the movie, for me, were the slower parts, where we learned a little about the characters and they started to operate more as a group. Still, the visuals were fantastic and the setting for the film was rather unique. I did, on the whole, enjoy the crap out of it. I suspect it may be just a tad over-rated, and yet, I can't help but think that the entire package is actually quite a bit more cohesive than any of the Marvel films or, quite frankly, any other action flicks that've been released lately.
I should also note that despite the fact that this film was apparently intended for 3D from the very beginning (even though 3D had to be added after the fact due to technical issues related to dust and everything moving all the time), it has done nothing to convince me that 3D is anything but a gimmick, and that the shortcomings of 3D film-making are ultimately a distraction from the film rather than contributing to it.

Also, the whole "feminist" thing is over-fussed. Yeah, the movie turns a few tropes around, but it ain't exactly a feminist anthem or anything. It certainly sticks to a lot of gender tropes even as it subverts a few others. And in truth, those subversions only contribute to the film. This is a MUCH better film for the decisions made about it to embrace the women in it. If Charlize Theron's character was a guy, or some other characters later in the film guys, it would have weakened the story and made the experience less interesting and varied. Anyone who sees the "taint" of feminism in this film is apparently unable to see the strength of that decision for the story and needs to reconsider their self-image related to gender roles and identity. Only the paranoid with serious penis issues will be put-off. Unless, you know, films that are over 50% action and loaded with massive vehicles in them just aren't your bailiwick.

A 98% on rotten tomatoes is pretty darned high, but deserved.marurun wrote: I suspect it may be just a tad over-rated, and yet, I can't help but think that the entire package is actually quite a bit more cohesive than any of the Marvel films or, quite frankly, any other action flicks that've been released lately.
Charlize Theron
Charlize is quite incredible, isn't she?
I haven't heard any of the "feminist" complaints. I'll consider myself lucky.

I'm going to say it right now:

I am absolutely ecstatic to see this film! Gonna be getting a day off of baby duty to hang out with a buddy and go see the film, as she has absolutely no interest to see it. I mean, the movie was built around storyboards instead of a script, has heavy use of real stunts and working machinations that we consider cars and the wild and outrageous world of Mad Max that is true to form. Can't wait to see it!marurun wrote:My first movie in a theater in quite a while was Mad Max: Fury Road.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
As far as the feminist stuff in Maruruns rant, it didn't bother me that they were women at all, but I also would've been fine if they were men and don't think that the movie was enhanced because they were women. Most of those roles could've been interchangeable and not bothered me.
My only problem was that I kept hearing Bane when Tom Hardy was talking. When he didn't have dialogue, I would start seeing him as Max, but on some of his lines, it pulled me out of that illusion.

I hated Nemesis when I first saw it. I actually re-watched this movie recently. After the crap J.J. Abrahms calls Star Trek, I found Nemesis kind of refreshing.Xeogred wrote:

It is sad news to read that Pitch Perfect 2's box office did a lot better than Mad Max, what a shame.

It will even out in no time. MAD MAX will become a phenomenon. I'd rather not compare it to NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, but I have no choice. It's one of those word of mouth "Holy $#!t you need to see it" kind of movies.Jmustang1968 wrote:It is sad news to read that Pitch Perfect 2's box office did a lot better than Mad Max, what a shame.
Plus kids will probably watch the entire series, which they should and is for the betterment f humanity. And there will be parties held for the Mad Max series. The food that goes along with those parties might not be so delicious, but the parties will be glorious.
