Watched The Audition and about half of Pulse (2001). I'll probably be finishing up pulse pretty soon here. Up for suggestions on any more Japanese film (non-anime) to watch.

Is there any other way to spend a "buck fifty" than to blow through it? I've never slowly worked my way through a dollar and a half.REPO Man wrote: so you don't have to blow through a buck fifty like I did.
Do they still sell Juicy Fruit five packs where you live?
Of course I'm messing with you, but the statement of "blowing through a buck fifty" made me laugh. You can't buy much of anything here in Florida for that much these days. Let alone several things.
To be fair, I purchased a "fresh banana" at the gas station the other day and it was less than $1.50 by some few cents. The water on the other hand...
I'm thinking you probably can't pay for the air you breathe in NYC for under two bucks.

Have you spent any time with Korean cinema? It's better IMO. Especially in that genre.Soldier Blue wrote:Watched The Audition and about half of Pulse (2001). I'll probably be finishing up pulse pretty soon here. Up for suggestions on any more Japanese film (non-anime) to watch.

Depends, are you only interested in horror films or extreme and exploitative? Do you want more ghosts, torture, gore, violence, etc?Soldier Blue wrote:Watched The Audition and about half of Pulse (2001). I'll probably be finishing up pulse pretty soon here. Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I can't agree with this comparison. Avengers is fun and witty and made by someone who loves the source material. Transformers is dumb and juvenile and made by someone who loathes the source material. I can't comment on Ninja Turtles because I have no drive to see it.jp1 wrote:
You know, I just don't get the Avengers thing. I love Marvel, I grew up reading Marvel exclusively and I love the characters. That said, the movies just don't do it for me. They are really kind of Michael Bay(ish). Somehow he gets lambasted for doing the exact same thing (all action, no character development/plot) while Avengers is constantly praised.
I get that a lot of people are burning out on the cinematic universe but I've read the comics all my life and have always been an Avengers guy and a whore for continuity so for me it's kind of a dream come true. I'm still wondering what's going to happen after Thanos though, if we're going to see a definitive ending to all of this or will the cash flow bring on the reboots.
Yeah, I tried my best to stay away from pretty much everything Ultron related including this thread once the movie came out and as such I enjoyed the movie a lot more than I would have if I had known certain elements would have been in it.Luke wrote:Try to never do that.jp1 wrote: I went in expecting...
I'm even a bit disappointed at myself for watching the FORCE AWAKENS trailer as I always try to walk into a movie as blind as possible.
It's not a cinematic masterpiece but I got all I wanted out of it. I was pleasantly surprised at how great a villain they made Ultron. He could have easily been far more generic than he turned out.
Biggest peeve:
I have to go against the grain of the popular critical opinion and say I enjoyed it every bit as much as the first one but maybe not as much as Guardians of the Galaxy.
As I understand it we'll be seeing the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers 3.jp1 wrote:I know they have been foreshadowing, although I didn't see Guardians or Ultron yet. I did not see that there were already plans for it though. The thing is, and I'm contradicting myself here, I think that the crossover characters are important to the story line. Do they have plans of bringing in the full lot or are they going to water it down and have the Avengers somehow deal with it on their own? That is a deciding factor for me when purchasing tickets.
And honestly that movie stands great on its own. If there's one Marvel movie I think everyone should see it would be Guardians. It's just a great space flick.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Guardians is the John Stamos of Marvel movies...which is fantastic, because John Stamos is fantastic. Cute, cheesy, funny, and handsome.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I was indicating that it wasn't worth as much as a dollar and fifty cents.jp1 wrote:Is there any other way to spend a "buck fifty" than to blow through it? I've never slowly worked my way through a dollar and a half.REPO Man wrote: so you don't have to blow through a buck fifty like I did.

watched the babacock. didn't hear about this except from this forum. love the acting but i hate movies that question was it metaphoric or reality? i mean i know the answer but shit. nice change of pace horror movie nonetheless anyways.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
It's always interesting to hear complaints of Marvel films along the lines of "There's too many" or "There's too much to keep track of to understand the latest one". Interesting because Marvel is basically using the formula of every serialized tv show, and just doing it on a wider scale. I never heard anyone say "Damn, there's 63 episodes of Breaking Bad? That's just too much".
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

One could say it was more of the same, which is not a negative comment.
But "one" would be full of shit since it's better than the original.
Also, how funny is it that future star of the "Addams Family" Broadway musical, Nathan Lane, appears as a police officer in this? (Also, in the first one, the actor who played the judge who lived next door was in an episode of Tales from the Crypt with the original Gomez Addams, John Astin).
Also, future "Buffy" alumnus Mercedes McNab makes a comeback in the sequel as one of the campers as Camp Chippewa (she was a Girl Scout in the first one), along with David Krumholtz as Wednesday's unlikely puppy-love interest and a frightenly-perky Christine Baranski, and a few cameos from director Barry Sonnenfeld, David Hyde Pierce, Tony Shalhoub and female impersonator Charles Busch.
Why didn't this get a sequel, aside from the tragic passing of Raul Julia? And no, the straight-to-video one with Tim Curry doesn't count!
