I was too young at the time to really understand what was going on in the gaming industry. The first time I saw a Sega system being played was at a friend's house, and he was playing PSO on a big screen; it blew my mind, but for some reason, I couldn't conceptualize it as another console. I just thought it was a weird-looking PC or PlayStation. It's a shame, because I really wish I could have supported Sega back then. :(

Really? You never played a Sega Genesis? That's quite surprising considering that for a few years there the Genesis was doing even better than the SNES in sales.

Are you from outside the U.S. by chance?

He did say Playstation. So if he was a young kid during the PS1-era, it's not all that weird. Saturn had a much lower market share against N64 and PS1 than Genesis/Mega Drive had against Super Nintendo. Saturn sold 9.5 million consoles, nearly 6 million in Japan and 1.5 in the USA (by 1998). I don't know how much out of the remaining 2 million was sold outside Europe (Brazil, South Africa and maybe Middle-East mostly, I assume). PS1 sold 40 million consoles in Europe and Nintendo 64 sold overall 34 million consoles, out of those 6.75 million "in other regions"(=outside US/Japan). Mega Drive sold 8 million and Master System 6.8 million consoles in Western Europe. SNES sold "8.58 million in other regions", so it was either tied with Mega Drive in sales in Europe or loosing to it. Dreamcast sold 1.97 million units in Europe.
So during 1995-2000 the sales situation in Europe was something like this
Saturn: 1,5-2
Dreamcast: 2
N64: 5-6
PS1: 40
So Saturn/N64/PS1 ratio was something like 1:3:20 at best

I think the situation was pretty much the same in US/EU during both generations. SNES and Genesis/Mega Drive were 50:50 in the long run, SEGA dominated the first half, and SNES catched up to it during 1993/1994. Saturn was much more rare than N64, more so in USA than Europe (N64 sold 20.6 million consoles in North America so the ratio was 20,6:1.5 while in Europe the ratio was 5-6:1,5-2) and PS1 dominated the sales. Saturn flopped in USA and did well in Japan while Dreamcast did well in USA and flopped in Japan.
EU had way more Master Systems though.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I'm torn as to what play next to completion, and am having a hard time motivate myself, what am I experiencing!?

I can choose between a few things here:
Yakuza 3
Yakuza 4
Phantasy Star II
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Little Big Planet
Infamous
Uncharted
Killzone Series
Resistance Series
Dishonored

Any thoughts as to my dilemma? Nothing is striking me!

Do it. Worth it.

Yeah, I need to find a place to buy one now haha.

Right- I grew up in the 32-Bit era in Northern Michigan (was born in July of '93), but my neighbors had older consoles- NES, SNES, Game Boy. It wasn't until my neighbors bought a second-hand saturn around 2004 that I fully realized sega's significance.

It is weird, come to think of it, that I didn't come across a single genesis/dreamcast/saturn until then. I would have been fascinated. Until I bought a genesis in high school, I relied on compilations on the gamecube to play old sonic titles.
Sega Genesis (Model 2), Sega CD, Sega 32X, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Game Boy Family, Phillips CD-i Model 910, NES, Atari 5200, Virtual Boy, Atari Jaguar, Playstations 3-4

Honestly, none of those prospects look terribly exciting to me either right now. It looks like you're leaning towards more recent releases, though? If that's the case than maybe whittling the entries on the list or narrowing down what kind of game you want to play more will help you decide.

Of course, if you're really not feeling that motivated, Uncharted and Little Big Planet are on the shorter side, time wise, on that list if you just stick to the main story. Because if you're really having trouble motivating yourself, it's probably best to stay away from 25+ hour long RPGs.

Born in '89, but I was introduced to gaming when I was VERY young. There really isn't a point in my life I can remember when there wasn't some sort of console sitting on the living room floor.

Sega had a major impact in my life early on, and although I was proud to wear a SEGA shirt around, I loved both Nintendo and Sega equally. I remember being confused when I saw the Sony Playstation as I thought only Nintendo and Sega were still making systems. Shortly after that, I did research and found out about the Atari Jaguar, 3DO, etc.

I was so upset when I couldn't convince my grandparents to buy my a Sega Saturn. Years went by and it slowly got pushed to the back of my mind as I settled in with my N64 and Playstation instead. My Sega fanboy-ism came back as my excitement grew for 9/9/99. I plastered every ad I could find for the Dreamcast all over my wall trying to drop "hints". I eventually got it, and was heartbroken to find out my beloved Sega was doing poorly. I played my Dreamcast religiously all the up to Katrina. It was bitter-sweet, because I could go down to the store and buy Dreamcast games dirt cheap.

Modern gaming is full of too many unfun games and people. Playing Borderlands for the first time I didnt have fun and my moms roomate was making fun of how bad I was, :S Then theres casual gamers who dont want what they play called video games and they dont want to be classified as gamers even though they play games longer than most gamers. They dont want to play games that challenge them or keep them thinking about them when theyre not playing them. :/ They spend so much time with this candy like pass time its as bad as what they would say to us years ago when they thought games were total wastes of time and nothing productive comes from it. Well I think playing JRPG's and Mario is more productive than Facebook games. The internet is ruining gaming, too many people trolling each other and making it hard to want to keep going around and interact with others online, but I still want to hear about things, people memories of games and other good stuff thats hidden under the trolls posts. I play on emulators because I dont have the time to go around to 30 thrift stores and find a truck load of good games I still cant afford to buy. I play these games and people have a problem with it because Im stealing, yeah like buying used 20 year old games at Goodwill is giving back to the publishers and developers of those games. Not like Im stealing Xbox 360 games off store shelves. The concept of someone playing a console game on a computer with a different controller than the one they used to play the game must be a weird alien evil thing to them, well theres a lot of people playing Skyrim on their computers without a Duelshock 3.
