Went to the last big flea market of this year and picked up,
Gamecube Gameboy Player Start-up disc for $5
Crazy Taxi Disc only for Dreamcast - $4
Jaws for NES - $3
3 Odyssey 2 games which were Blackjack, UFO, and Speed way Spinout all CIB - $10
Also my cousin was looking for Dragon Ball Z Budaki Techaki 3 and asked a seller if he had it and he said it was a worthless game and when we asked if he had any he said he won't bring them to the flea market because it's not worth it... He also tried to sell me a Bubble Bobble II for $700... I hate some of these sellers...

My stepmom asked me to pick a PS1 if I saw one in my travels. I eventually did, grabbed it, and tested it with no problem. She picked up some games for herself and went about her life.

We hung out for an afternoon and told me that she had an issue with one game. I opened it up to discover that the damned thing was modded.

I actually find it fascinating since I've never seen one before (and have no idea what the mod does)

That's not uncommon, to find a modified console in the wild. People post that they have from time to time.

It's pretty awesome if it's a mod chip, which will allow you to play CD-Rs, and IIRC, games from other regions (though the PSOne has an exception).

Easiest way to tell is to try and play a game from a CD-R, though if it doesn't work that doesn't rule out that it is a mod chip (you might have a bad burn).

If you want to know more, I suggest posting a thread about this with pictures. The more detailed the pics the better.

I, as a scientist, decided to test this theory (for purely scientific reasons, of course). My first test was with a Crash Bandicoot game. The burn worked...it just yelled at me for copy protection and was in black and white. I know Naughty Dog did stuff like that so I did another test with a different game and it worked (thus far) like a champ.

Of course, this is just for science.

One of two things. The most likely thing is that you have an older mod chip without a stealth mode. After PS1 mod chips came about, some games were made able to detect the chips. So to combat this, the stealth chip was created. It boots the game then shuts off to avoid being detected. Most likely you have an older chip, unless you copied the game yourself.

Second possibility is that you have a bad copy of the game. Clone CD is needed to accurately copy some PS1 games. Making a simple BIN/CUE image may not work with certain games. The reason being is, again, they became aware of mod chips and the fact that people were copying games. So some games had the data written to the CD in such a way that makes it hard to copy it. Something about certain sectors being written with garbage data, some kind of pseudo copy protection, I don't remember exactly and I was never able to find some one that could give me a straight answer about it all. The game can detect if it's a (bad) copy and give you messages as such. Clone CD has a read mode specifically for PS1 games, and can make a perfect copy of a game with such copy protection schemes.

If you downloaded the game from the internet, then most likely it's a good copy with an old mod chip. If you made the copy yourself, then you have the second possibility being a little stronger. It could be both!

Got these things on Saturday from the Flea Market, then nabbed the Didj game from a thrift store for Bone as I had seen it a few weeks ago. The tape has been cleaned off the QftR and the red is off the Didj since taking this picture. The joystick is an Epyx 500XJ for SMS and has microswitches and I got it for $1. It joins my C64 one.

I wish Flea Markets in our area were more common! elmagicochrisg, your past few posts of your local pickups concerning produce, dairy, and jam have cracked me up. Hilarious. What a steal on those NES and Mega Drive bundles. Super jealous! :)

Stumbled across 7 complete Saturn sports games for. 99 each. I was gonna get them all for their cases but every one of them was cracked or had broken hinges.

Answered a Craigslist add for a decent deal on Resident Evil (CIB), and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (CB) for the Gamecube: $30 for the pair. Both original release ("black label"). Original listing included LoZ Collector's Edition for $65, but I already have it, and the guy had already sold it anyway. Happy to have these two without spending too much. Just need to magic a manual for MGS into my hands, somehow.

Right? I might pass out if I saw a lot of Genesis stuff even close to that good, in my area. Most people here have horrible taste in games.

Stopped by my usual pawn again today and struck gold.

For $25($3 a piece) I got:

Pitfall the Lost Expedition(Xbox)
Guilty Gear X2 Reload(Xbox) *disc only*
The Suffering(PS2)
Champions of Norrath(Ps2)
TMNT(PS2)
Animal Crossing(GC) *missing manual*

and the crown jewel .Hack Mutation(PS2) *disc only but in good shape*. Still need parts 3 & 4 and would like to get them all complete, but am excited to finally bump into a .hack game in the wild :).

Also picked up a loose copy of Half Life 2 in the deal but realized it was to far gone to repair when I got home. Was inspecting it a little closer and noticed a central crack had made it all the way to the read area :P.
