21. Quantum Theory(360) 9/8/13
22. Dead Island(PC) 10/25/13
23 Mars Matrix(MAME) 10/27/13

Dead Island is still pretty buggy but provides a good co-op experience overall. Definitely some replay value there as well thanks to the large variety of weapons. The ending however sucks.

Mars Matrix can be described as bullet hell on steroids lol. I can only get partially through stage 2 without using credits and a full play through takes about 20+ :P. All the abilities they managed to put on one button is just amazing though :).

26. XCOM: Enemy Unknown (PC)
27. Mario Kart DS (DS)
28. Street Fighter X Tekken (PC)
29. New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS)

I really enjoyed NSMB2. Like the first game on DS, this one is a little on the easy side. But the level-design makes up for that in the sense that it offers a reason to re-explore the game multiple times. And also, the last battle against Bowser was a big difficult. I probably only lost one or two lives leading up to that, but had to use five or six to beat him. Which was nothing, since it's easy to stockpile 50-100 lives in this game without even trying too hard. Luckily, bonus worlds are opened after beating the game as well, so even though it's a bit easy and short (with only 6 worlds) it has more to it to keep you interested afterwards. Recommended!

We're talking about D2 in the "Dreamcast gaming going on" thread. I said it certainly earned its M-rating, and it was even toned down from the original Japanese version. There was also issues with cutscenes not advancing and of course those long load times as well as the suspense taken away when the DC loads a "random encounter" (the sound it makes).

The noises my Dreamcast makes when loading those two games always put me on edge. Thing sounds like my bread machine. I even cheer my console on, "You can do it buddy...You can do it. Eye of the tiger, you got this".

I love how you kind of get lost in D2, in both meanings of the word. Is it a bit anti-climatic? A bit, but the game does focus more on suspense than action.

I can't find my last update here, so I'm not completely sure what's new. The ones I'm pretty sure are new are in bold.

I beat DecapAttack (which I just bought yesterday) tonight for the first time though.

Never got around to beating it as a kid, so its nice to finally see the ending. Kid me also found it much more difficult than adult me. Save for a couple of annoyances it was a breeze.

Wow, my list is tiny this year. A few updates in bold.

January:
-Mass Effect (360)
-New Super Mario Bros U (WiiU)

February:
-Mass Effect 2 (360)

March:
-Kirby's Dream Land (Gameboy)
-Punch Out!! (Wii)

August:
- Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS)

September:
- Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (GCN)
- Megaman 3 (NES)

October:
- Victorious Boxers Revolution (Wii)
- Super Mario Land 3D (3DS)
- New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS)

Losing my job freed me up to play a little bit more but I'll be doing some major job training in a couple of weeks so I expect the end of the year to be similar to the middle of my year.

As I find myself with less and less time to game, I've noticed that I am not taking many chances with my game choices. I am sticking very close to Nintendo first party offerings or classic games like Megaman 3. The one wacky title I've tried was Victorious Boxers Revolution. It was an interesting game that feels like it fell victim to schizophrenic design choices. Taken in isolation, the storyline, artwork, gameplay, and graphics all work well but put together and the game has weird pacing, an uneven difficulty level, and controls that sometimes fight you for unknown reasons. It's a shame since this could have been a great alternative to Punch Out.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Victorious Boxers Revolution was just a mess of a game. Me and my friends were so excited to try that game out, and it was pretty bad.

The PS2 games are still great, it's too bad they'll never get much recognition in America.

I was midway through the game before I realized it was probably a licensed anime title. I've never heard of the show it's based on and it suffers from the same truncated storyline that plagues pretty much all anime games.

It's really a shame because it could have been a really good game.

Mother 2 (Earthbound)

Yeah, I legitimately hate this game. Itoi can go fuck himself: "Have a sense of humor"— How about be funny/clever for once; hack.

I would really like to punch a physical representation of the Genius Photographer, and/or the game's item storage, right in the throat. (Tracy or Itoi would do also; or the Runaway Brother's. Any of the characters might do. They're all a pack of idiots.)
