Maybe above Panic Room, but The Game is still one of my favorites he's done. So good.

I like The Game. I mean "worst David Fincher" still means better than most directors' best. Shrug.

The Raid 2 on the other hand, that blew me away, totally lived up to not just its own hype, but the amount of hype that the first movie didn't live up to.

I will give The Raid 2 a fair shake. I liked Dredd much more than Raid, but that is probably because I prefer gun-based action films over kung-fu stuff...I'm not a huge fan of the latter, actually. That's not to say I don't like some nicely choreographed fight scenes, but I thought that the ones in The Raid were just too much to allow for any suspension of disbelief - everyone was just far too acrobatic, endlessly resilient, and one-dimensional, especially given the supposedly punishing blows they kept giving/taking and their apparent motivations for their actions.

I think, for example, that something like Equilibrium is miles better than The Raid. I've enjoyed most Jason Statham films I've seen much more than The Raid, too, for that matter.

It's just that pretty much every kick and punch in almost every scene is made to seem like it would break a bone, but of course everyone is still limber and strong throughout the fight until that last "finishing" blow. Don't get me wrong, I thought the finishing bits were often cool in a Mortal Kombat kind of way...but long-ass over-the-top MK-style fights themselves don't lend well to cinema in my opinion.

Well, martial arts movies can't be realistic or everything would look like a UFC fight. And UFC fights, while entertaining in their own way, don't make for good movie material

It just is what it is. It's the same thing with pro wrestling. Ronda Rousey is a huge wrestling fan, as a top notch UFC fighter, she knows more than anyone how fake wrestling "combat" is. Yet she still enjoys it for what it is.
