I quit sometime in sophomore year. The high school GT teacher was atrocious.

I was in GT starting in elementary school. The biggest thrill was getting to use the school's lone Amiga rather than the Apple II's. What a treat that was.

We didnt have GT in high school. It reverted to AP. It was ELP (Extended Learning Program) in elementary, and GT in middle school. I liked it as it set me ahead in math in HS and we had college level english my Jr and Sr years. Taking AP history/science etc was completely separate than the GT program path.
The cutoff in texas Hobie is Sep 1. I was 5 when elementary started and turned 6 (birthday in oct) I had a friend born in August who was in the grade ahead of me. Were you 18 at all during your Sr year?

Nope, I was 17 all senior year. Turned 18 near the end of the summer after graduation.Jmustang1968 wrote: The cutoff in texas Hobie is Sep 1. *edit*
Also, I fail at the maths and memories. I started kindergarten right after I turned 5.

Awwwww that sounds heartbreaking. poor dogLuke wrote:This should all be in the do you have children thread, eh?
Frown: While my wife was washing dishes during her "dog duty", and she didn't hear Ripley leave the room and walk upstairs. She did however hear her fall down them. Poor dog. Ripley was at the bottom the stairs, unable to get back up and had the "Help me out Dad" look in her eyes. Looks like I'll have to be the constant watchdog of watching the dog.

She's in good hands. Her back legs aren't doing so hot, and my wife now knows how important it is to keep an eye on her.Aramonde wrote: Awwwww that sounds heartbreaking. poor dog
I have no clue about what age I entered school. I went to a gifted school most of my elementary years, was invited to Raleigh's school of math and science during high school but passed because I loved everything about the high school I went to. I never went through "that teenage angst" phase so high school was nothing but a blast for me. I did spend most of my junior and senior year being grounded as I goofed around a lot (but believe you me I still sneaked out a lot), but I maintained a 3.8, held down a job, and had a militant list of daily chores to complete.
Smile: Celebrated a friend's birthday last night with friends and his family, and it was a night.
His family is Italian, almost to the point of "sitcom" Italian. He had a cousin fly in from NYC who didn't shut up for a second and may be five feet tall in shoes with in-soles. He has an Uncle Vito, complete with track suit and gold necklace. His Mother never left the kitchen, and if you think we had Italian bread, meatballs in gravy, and salad, you would be correct. He also has a friend who is an unfunny Seth Rogen, but more on that later.
After dinner, Prosecco toasts (because champagne is for "surrender monkeys"), wine, and cake we left at around 9pm for the real party.
Only there was one problem. My friend had locked himself out of his own house. A bit inebriated and a tad frustrated, you could tell that he was getting into a foul mood, and fast. Luckily I had one of those "loyalty" cards to some store I never go to and shimmied the lock open. After that, the floodgates were open and his house was packed in around a quarter of an hour. Fun times.
I almost forgot. So my pal who was celebrating his birthday had an old friend from high school visit, who had a touch of that "I'm too good to be here" attitude. We all know someone like that. You could tell he wanted to be somewhere else, and every conversation seemed to end up revolving around him. The guy looked (besides his well cut straight hair), sounded, laughed, smoked and gesticulated like Seth Rogen.
Don't get me wrong, he seemed liek a really nice guy and there were some questionable sorts at the party, but his "better than you" aura was off putting. After over five hours of hanging around him and his tasteless jokes I had to say it. "You know who you remind me of? A non-Jewish, unfunny Seth Rogen".
Cue the record stopping scratch sound. "What do you mean I'm unfunny?". First thoughts were 'You just pissed off someone bigger than you', 'No fighting on my buddy's birthday', and 'let 'em have it'. So I let 'em have it. "I mean you aren't funny. Your jokes are all borrowed, you rely and racial and sexual humor for cheap laughs. and people are only laughing at your jokes to humor you. You aren't funny".
And that was that. I said what everyone was thinking, so it was if the party stopped for a few seconds, and then continued like nothing happened.

I've tried my hand at just about every medium. I really like ceramics, but I don't have the space or the expensive equipment for a ceramics studio. One of these days I'll have my own kiln and potters wheel (and the broken back that goes with it).fastbilly1 wrote:Congrats Samson. What kind of art do you do?
My art show on Wednesday was all photography. I had eleven black and white photographs at 24 inches wide by 30 inches tall. It was more successful than I anticipated. This reminds me, I need to email that gallery director to get myself on the 2015 schedule.
