TEA and Texas public schools are governed by the Texas Education Code (TEC). A child must be at least five years of age on September 1 of the school year
Hmm, apparently it shifted since I was little. I was 4 for about a month when I started kindergarten.
My daughter's fifth birthday is next weekend, and she is in half-day pre-school right now. She will start kindergarten when she is about 5 1/2. My son is an August baby, and he will probably start Kindergarten a day or so after he turns five, which will make him one of the youngest in his class. (I did not start kindergarten until I was six.)
Still kicking ass at the UIL contests, got high individual today. And a certain girl is also on my team, so I had a lot of time to hang out with her. Might not give me a lick of attention as anything more than a friend, but at least I get to hang out with her. And I got to see her pull up her shirt and adjust her belly button ring, so I've got that going for me.
Cal age 5 (birthday August 11) started preschool when he was 3 and will not to to Kindergarten until he is 6. He could read, write and add at a level above what is recommended kindergarten this year (my wife taught K for 4 years before staying home with the kids) we did not hold him back a year because of his intelligence but because of his immaturity. Cal is so energetic, and a pain (lovable hyper pain) in the butt, that the teachers would hate him and ask us to medicate him if he started school this year. Next year he will be more mature - we see proof of this right now. Oliver, while more calm, has a Sep 17th birthday and since we don't want him and his brother in the same class he will start school at 5 turning 6.
Also, I grew 4 inches after I graduated (Sep 18th birthday and started school at 4 turning 5) and my size (not even 5ft tall as a freshman) has probably been passed on to my kids (my wife is short too), so if my boys play sports they will have a better chance than I did physically to make the team(s).
Back on topic: Did anyone get the Cuban Bean reference from yesterday that I posted? I thought it was awesome.
