I mentioned recently wanting to come up with a cab-like setup for my basement. And when putting together a list of favorite arcade games, something dawned on me. Many of them are Dreamcast games. Ones that weren't ported to PC. So I started re-assembling a new Dreamcab. Something a bit classier. And I made some progress over the weekend, though I still need arcade sticks and speakers.
But reading up on this stuff, it really hit me. For modern games, PC is my main focus. Well, for many old games too. But as far as consoles go, it seems the only one that I continually gravitate towards is Dreamcast (and NGPC for handheld). These are the only systems that I've multiple times purged only to realize that I have a serious attachment to them. To be honest Dreamcast has a pretty special place to me. I first got my console when we were in a financially tough spot. I remember trading in a bunch of crap at a local store and coming home with a handful of new DC games that I knew nothing about. Games that have really stuck with me over the years, like Daytona or PSO. So yeah, I'm back into this stuff. I imagine some of you had pools going, so whoever had November 6th-8th should be a rich man.
Now what I have realized when looking back on my fond memories is that the real fun came not from going over eBay everyday and scooping up large lots to go towards 'collecting,' but rather picking up one or two games at a time. Either buying a certain game because I had a reason I wanted to play it right away, or the thrill of finding something in the wild - as rare as that was. I loved really delving into a game, reading the manual cover to cover, and getting deep into it.
Right now my DC collection is very small. And I don't plan to bulk it up quickly. I ordered Gunbird 2 (and may bite on Under Defeat) for STGT. But right now I'm not rushing anything. Like I said, I need 2 arcade sticks. And I am considering Ghostblade once I get the "cab" set up.
I'm also considering bringing back my noiseredux vs. Dreamcast blog - I have about half of the write-up's archived... lost the other half. :\
As far as how my Dreamcast gaming is going - I played some DOA2 on Friday night. And tonight I've been continuing my season in NFL 2K... I'm 14-0.
Ahh noise, it is like an old post of mine.
You know people buy and sell and buy and sell all the time. I mean look what I did. I sold everything to own the beautiful home and I got a lot back. Just as long as your happy and your not hurting anyone or forgetting to put the money towards bills, then do whatever makes you happy bro. Life is too short. Who cares what others say or do. Now go play that Dreamcast and get your game on.
If it helps any the Dreamcast will be mine again one day to sit next to my ps1 in my game room I'm building

I think I just have to accept that unlike every other console I've ever gotten into, just when I think I'm out, Dreamcast always pulls me back in.
Anyway heading into my NFL 2K playoffs 16-0. It's really crazy to think just how good the first game in a brand new series was right away. I mean this is a football game from 1999 and when I saw it snow I was like "OMG awesome!"

I know right?! NFL and NBA 2k games were really good and still are fun to play. There is a reason they played a big focus in the u.s. ad campaigns, they looked and played awesome. MLB 2k though... not so much. Nothing beats world series baseball on the saturn.

yeah the NFL and NBA 2K games are truly great... I've never played any baseball game on Dreamcast now that I think about it. NHL 2K was horrible. I haven't played 2K2, so not sure if they improved things.

I am not a big framerate loonies when it comes to games, but MLB 2k had such a bad framerate issues that it was a big detriment. It just couldn't get the visuals right and the stadium really bogged down the performance. So sad.
The later 2k hockey games got better, but they still aren't the best.

Anyone tried any of the new widescreen hacks that have been found?
I haven't tried any yet, as I don't have a cheat disc, but it seems pretty impressive.

I haven't but I guess I could - I do have Cheats N Codes if that will work.

The world is a better place when noise is into DC.
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
So my brother scraps metal and he told me he had a bunch of game systems. 11 ps2's, 3 n64's, gamecube. All were dead except for the n64 but did not have any of those packs in front to get the system on but I used mine and they all worked but they were all cosmetically damaged.
In the very bottom was a little white system with a orange logo. Opened it up and a quite little game was inside.
Went to my game store and low and behold the Dreamcast booted right up with power stone inside. Guess im back in like you noise Sega brings me back
