Disturbed is one of those bands that I gained new respect for after seeing live. They were incredible and sounded even better than their studio recordings. Draiman is a hell of a frontman and was able to get the entire crowd up and pumping their fists with ease, including myself, not even really being that much of a fan of their music. You won't see me cruising down the road blasting their albums, but I definitely recognize them as talented musicians.

man, fuck that, that's a stupid cop-out argument. fucking yanni and kenny g are "talented musicians."
i know ultimately it boils down to personal preference, but just because someone can actually play their instrument competently doesn't give them a free pass.

Hitting a 60 minute set of intense music out of the park and not missing a single beat in front of a crowd in the thousands is far more than "playing your instrument competently".
I'm not really sure what it is you are getting at though. I wasn't giving anyone a pass, I was just saying that after I saw them live I opened up to their music more because they were impressive.
At the same show, I lost a lot of respect for Dragonforce, who sounded horrific. It seriously sounded like Totman and Li were hitting the strings with bricks or something.

Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
so is defending the deftones only making people not interested in beat the doll?
helmet and tool i agree are alternative metal, tho tool is kind of progressive and beyond helmet or deftones.. and i thought everyone agreed a long time ago that korn is basically the definition of nu-metal..
faith no more, i don't know what to call them, they're awesome, and they're quirky
sorry i was so late to all this, it's a lot of pages to read

Eh... Nu metal is a genre though. It's like alternative/pop-rock with some thrash, groove metal, and hip-hop influences.
Anyway, anyone been listening to metal?

Disturbed is a great band. They're a unique metal band. I don't see anyone else mixing Reggae with Metal. And they do it well.
