Random Thoughts Thread
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I believe it is. I've only managed to play Growl once so far. I'm glad we got a few months to do it, I need more time.

Today I learned: jews don't eat cheeseburgers.
I was on the TheHistoryKitchen.com . The site's author said she converted to Judaisim . I thought you had to be born a Jew to be a Jew, you can't join the club.

I'm pretty sure "Jew" is offensive. It seems you weren't aware due to cultural differences? Anyway, Judaism is a religion (which you can convert to), I believe you must be born Jewish to be Jewish though....as you suspected.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't see Xeogred had corrected that already. Not trying to pile on.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
It isn't kosher. There are a lot of rules to what follows Kashrut. Cheeseburgers are out because of meat being served with milk, which violates the rule.RCBH928 wrote:Today I learned: jews don't eat cheeseburgers.
If you're interested in reading a quick overview, give this a shot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashrut
But despite the lack of cheeseburgers, food generally associated with Jewish communities in the US is totally awesome anyway, and I would kill for a good bowl of matzah ball soup.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I've heard it both ways. My girlfriend is Jewish, and she and her family are completely fine with saying/hearing "Jew", use the term often, and it's fine by them when non-Jewish folk, like myself, use it, too. It's not like they're casual, either - they go to temple, celebrate Jewish holidays, do all that stuff. Maybe it's context/intention-based?jp1 wrote: I'm pretty sure "Jew" is offensive. I won't say it here, as I don't want to offend y'all, but food for thought. but that's been my experience.
Final Fantasy IX is the best one
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Yeah, his usage of "Jew" was fine and normal. I'm a Jew, I'm Jewish, both are equally valid and used. It's when you start saying things like "Jew food" or "Don't Jew me on this" that the term becomes offensive.catnip wrote:I've heard it both ways. That reads like someone's rock band name. As fas as cheeseburgers go, Christians aren't supposed to eat lobsters, but we all bend the rules once in a while. You're also not supposed to pay for sex so there are plenty of odd restrictions.RCBH928 wrote:Jews don't eat cheeseburgers.
A good friend of mine has a sweet Beastie Boys T that reads "Challah at your Boy".
The Jewish delis in Chicago are ridiculously good. Kosher hot dogs on the other hand leave much to be desired.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Hebrew National dogs are kosher, and I think they are very similar in quality to Nathan's for example. Now, that's a mainstream, mass-produced brand, but I don't see any reason why a kosher beef frank wouldn't be pretty tasty. I've had some fantastic ones.Luke wrote:The Jewish delis in Chicago are ridiculously good. Kosher hot dogs on the other hand leave much to be desired.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Hebrew Nationals have no snap to them. I grew up with Vienna beef hot dogs and Usinger's beef hot dogs, which spoiled me.marurun wrote: Hebrew National dogs are kosher, and I think they are very similar in quality to Nathan's for example. Boar's head brand are alright, but the former brands I mentioned stay with you all day long.
