What was the last movie you've seen?

played probably one of the most manipulative/self serving characters I have probably ever seen in a movie

For me Jake Gyllenhaal's "Louis Bloom" was a hybrid of Robert De Niro's "Travis Bickle" and Christian Bale's "Patrick Bateman". It worked well.

I watched Nightcrawlers this weekend as well. The movie was excellent and Gyllenhaal did a very convincing job with his character. He was very much the awkward yet intelligent and ruthless character he was portraying.

I also watched Gone Girl and Birdman.

Gone Girl was pretty good, but seemed to drag on a bit too long. The acting was great, but I felt the 2nd half of the movie wasn't as good as the first. I liked some of the lines and the ruthless and brutal nature of the self-serving characters.

Birdman didn't do it for me. I had high expectations going in. But I didnt give a shit about the characters or their egos. I also wasn't that intrigued by the self mocking nature of Hollywood and film/acting industry in general. It is like a movie made mostly for those in the business. I was mostly bored. Occasionally there would be a moment of comedy or an interesting dialogue that would catch my attention, as the acting was pretty good, but those only broke up longer sections of blah.

I can't fault your reasoning but I still enjoyed it immensely. I'm surrounded by ordinary people with over-inflated egos so the whole thing struck a chord with me. Narcissism is pandemic.

Yeah Nightcrawlers topped it in it my book by quite a bit. The thing that really made Lou(Gyllenhal) interesting is he was pretty straight forward nothing is ever hidden from the audience.

His behavior was just so peculiar that you took his actions as a sign that he wasn't good with people when in reality it was the exact opposite. Every time a situation arises he maneuvers so as to take control of it and shift the outcome to his advantage no matter what the cost. He is a really dark character who doesn't really give a shit about anyone else as long as his character gains a net profit.

Honeymoon (2014). It is a slow-burn horror film about a young couple on their honeymoon. The wife goes sleepwalking in the woods one evening and returns...different. All four of the film's actors deliver solid performances, and the film is well-directed. It starts out a bit too slow for even my tastes, however, and the "payoff" at then end is a bit predictable. That said, I still enjoyed it, and it is currently streaming on Netflix. Accordingly, if you have that service and are looking for a new indie horror film, I recommend watching it.

The main character is the epitome of venture-capitalist sociopathy It did remind me of this rather enjoyable book, so I recommend it if you like to explore that dark aspect of humanity.

Also watched How to Train Your Dragon 2 on Netflix last night. Definitely not as good as the first one but still decent. Really feels like the story could have used some more work since the villain was just kind of meh in my opinion. Plus the story got really sidetracked by the appearance of a certain character in the middle .
